I'm sure all of you, just like me, were disappointed in the result of yesterday. That is no excuse to go on a game long rampage in the stands. Most of our fans at JTS are good people and root for our team even when things aren't going our way. Thank you, you are the fans that make JTS an awesome atmosphere even for a 1 win team. The rest of our fans at the game, you know who you are. Screaming at the top of your Lungs "Campbell you suck", "piss poor coaching!", "Chr*st, tackle him you moron!" the entire game while pounding on the bleachers is not what fans in section 9 want to see and hear while watching our team win or lose. This is my 3rd new section in 5 years of having season tickets and there is someone like this in every section I have been in.

I know I won't make an immediate difference in this post but if you are one of those people, just know you aren't helping the people who want to be at the game. I love going to the games and want to be able to financially support the AD but when people like I describe above are screaming all game, it makes fans think about their options and one of them includes staying home, watching it on TV, and saving a lot of money. That means less tickets sold, less money to the AD, less support for the team. There is another team in this state that condones awful fan behavior so if you are going to act like a jerk all game go there, stay away from ISU. We love our family friendly atmosphere and if you shut up or leave, the rest of us will be able to enjoy the game much more and without your nonsense.

I will second what the OP is stating. I am sick and tired of "That Guy" screaming obscenities at the officials from 30 rows up. First of all, they can't hear you. Most of all, it pisses me off to no end that you can plainly see my 9 year old sitting with me, along with dozens of other young kids around, and it doesn't at all register with you as being inappropriate. I have sat all over the stadium and apparently you can never escape "That Guy". Please, don't be "That Guy".

Losing brings out the creeps who boo. Tell us how the KU game is.

Have you thought of maybe approaching these people and telling them this yourself rather than coming onto a message board (that they probably dont even look at) and posting it anonymously?
I did, as well as the family behind him telling them they have young children and politely asked him to stop.

This is what I've done. In a calm way, but pointing out the kids nearby that can hear them. And then I point out that I know they care, but if the behavior doesn't stop I'll be bringing in security with a complaint about their language and they'll be removed.

Good. If he didn't stop then he is a douche, nothing you can do about it. I get pretty angry at games, however, when i say something, the worst is usually "what the **** are we doing" (which I def said after each down of the goal line stand), and I say it in a tone that maybe people two rows in front of me can hear. Im usually know my surroundings and will definitely calm myself if there are kids around.

We are thinking about changing sections next year just to move away from this really annoying family. They have 4 seats but crowd 8 to 10 in their seats (top row of lower deck so room behind row to stand). They talk about everything but the game only to break that discussion to swear at the players - even in front of their little kids. I suppose we will need to keep this in mind when we move that there are idiots in every section.

They are also in every fanbase. We were in the KSU section yesterday, and there was a guy (KSU fan) going off on everything (refs, KSU players and coaches). If i didnt know, I would of thought KSU was down the entire game.

This happens in every fanbase in the world. No sanctimonious open letter is going to change that.

People seem to be reaching a breaking point. I witnessed a drunken fight between a bunch of 60 year old men after the game in the parking lot. One guy threatened to get his gun out of his car, I bet these are the same fans causing trouble in the stands.

I stood there in shock because I've seen plenty of fights at sporting events, but cant say Ive actually seen one where fans are fighting other fans of the same team. Then again, these are the same fans that just witnessed a dropped touchdown pass, Park overthrowing a wide open receiver on 4th down in the endzone, and a coach who isnt smart enough to line his 220 pound quarterback under center and have him sneak 3 inches for a touchdown either.

There needs to be a happy medium, just like everything in life. I'm not for the swearing in front of children, or berating the players, but it is certainly ok to have passionate fans. If that means yelling at officials and coaches, I'm ok with that. I'll do this on occasion, when I feel it's necessary. I know they can't hear us, but it does feel better to get it out.

Nobody wants a stands or coliseum full of complacent fans.

Some of this is the downside of the great tailgating atmoshpere at JTS. Certain percentage of people who overdo outside it are going to be jerks inside. Agree with those who say it doesn't hurt to confront people and ask them to tone it down around the kids. Most people are fairly reasonable when you ask them politely.
