I attended the Women's basketball game on Sunday, January 2, and sadly somebody appears to have absconded with my cell phone. I noticed it missing when we got back to our car. We called it multiple times and nobody answered. We re-entered Hilton and a nice usher helped us search the upper deck section where we sat, as well as calling "lost & found" - nobody turned it in.

My daughter and her fiance are good with Apple tech, so they remotely logged into my Apple account and put a message on the phone indicating, "Lost - please call this number if found". Nobody called. They again called the phone and nobody answered. They then began tracking it - their app successfully tracked my Apple Watch as we drove home to eastern Iowa, so I'm assuming it was accurate when tracking the cell phone to a gravel road outside Melbourne. Per Google Maps, the address was nowhere near a dwelling, so it appears whomever walked off with it probably threw it in a ditch.

In closing, it's my fault for not being more diligent in securing my cell phone while in Hilton, but it's sad that somebody either pickpocketed it or found it where it fell and made the conscious decision to walk away with it rather than turn it in to "lost & found". I guess even a group of great fans can potentially harbor a few bad eggs. My faith in humanity remains, but is dented.

Non-zero chance it may have been a hawk fan. Silver lining? And sorry. The inconvenience if nothing else is a drag.

sort of a fundamental, eternal debate on human nature.....I think "people" are selfish animals unless taught otherwise. Some operatives croon that most people are good.
I hope you get a surprise and some sort of closure maybe that is healing on the lost phone. Hard for me to believe that someone wouldn't go to every courtesy to return a phone knowing the seriousness of it. people suck.

Can you go out to the area and call your phone and listen for the ring or will your battery be dead by now?

Could be anyone, doesn’t have to be a Cyclone. Amongst 14,000 people in one place there are more “Non-Cyclones” than you think.

I listened to a pretty interesting podcast once with a psychologist. He basically said humans are born violent and selfish and those tendencies are nurtured out of them. Think of toddlers hitting their parents, or each other with no remorse or empathy. They aren't big or strong enough to do any damage, so no one thinks of them as "violent". Then they learn to become less violent over time. Similar with selfishness. It's just an evolutionary advantage for children to be selfish/violent. They had a better chance of survival if they could defend themselves somewhat and hoard as much food as they could.

That's more than what, 75% of Iowa towns? One crime on a Saturday in 2-3 hours is probably par for the course? How many out of that number are actively doing hard drugs?

I'm actually shocked that we don't hear more stories of incidents at 70,000 plus football games with excessive drinking.

The future son-in-law informed us the location was not particularly accurate (within a half mile), and would only be specific if / when the phone connected to WiFi - he also opined it possible the phone had been powered down.

We were on I80 near Grinnell when he gave us the approximate location and opted not to turn around, given the long-shot odds of success.

Local Fox station always posts what happens in Lambeau.

Did it have a cracked screen. Screens are expensive to replace maybe they did you a favor by ditching it.

There would always be bad apples even in Cyclone fans (not that I assume the person is a fan).

I recall I left a text book at our individual folder in the old Carver Hall office so my classmate could get it. It was a thick textbook, so there was no chance someone could grab it by mistake. And someone did but I happened to notice him doing it. I asked the EA (whose desk was in front of the cabinet containing our folders) the name of the student, noticing that his folder was next to mine and found out that his major was different from our major, thus he wouldn’t require that textbook.

I expected him to return the book to the EA or put an announcement in the next few days - nope, didn’t happen. So I ended up emailing him several days later, telling that someone saw him with the textbook and asking whether he did it. He responded without remorse saying that he accidentally grabbed it and would return it to the EA…….no apologies, just plain explanation - but none mentioning why he didn’t return it first time until he got found …. My classmate mentioned that this guy might want to sell it.

If you were deluded into thinking that there aren't some truly terrible people even in the Cyclone fanbase it is about time you learned the truth. I like Cyclone fans but just like in every group of people there are going to be some bad apples.

When I worked at Hilton years ago there was a guy on the crew who I really liked and respected. Then one day he was bragging about how he had found a wallet at the sweep the night before. He pocketed all of the money out of the wallet and threw it in the creek on his way home that night. I lost a lot of respect for him right there.

A woman left a small clear bag behind at the ISU vs Creighton game this season and I noticed her cell phone was in it.. I grabbed it and tried to get down the steps to find them but by the time I got down they were lost in the crowd. Miraculously we saw her husband standing outside the ladies room and I handed him the bag. He said his wife had gone back with an usher to look for it so I went back towards the seats and flagged her down and told her I had found it and gave it to her husband. I walked back with her until we got back to her husband.

Morality only exists because we say so. If there were no consequences (other people to consider) there is no morality. Nature kills without conscience. We just like to believe we're better than that.

Having said that it sucks when people can't see themselves in other people's misfortunes.

I live about 10ish miles from Melbourne. If you send the coordinates I could go out and take a look for it sometime, although it's probably buried in the snow if it's there. Let me know the model. If it's an 11/12/13 I'll look harder than I would for a 4/5/6/7/8 SE.
