I heard a discussion on ESPN regarding NFL playoff teams. Since 2000, an average of 6 playoff teams from the previous year do not make the playoffs the following year.

If you had to pick 6 playoff teams from last year that would NOT make the playoffs this year who would they be? Also, who would replace those teams? Think about it for a sec. Someone may say "The Seahawks aren't a playoff team" but if that's the case, then you gotta pick someone in their division to overtake them, otherwise they are in.

I'm just curious what the NFL fans on this site think.

Here is a list of the playoff teams from last year (* is division winner):

Seahawks (*), Cowboys (*), Packers (*), Bucs (*), Giants, Redskins

Pats (*), Chargers (*), Colts (*), Steelers (*), Jags, Titans

The 6 teams I'd pick to not to make it and replacements:

Titans -> Texans
Steelers -> Bengals
Redskins -> Eagles
Bucs -> Saints
Packers -> Vikings
Seahawks -> Cardinals

This would mean these are my playoff teams doing this exercise:

NFC: Vikings (*), Cowboys (*), Saints (*), Cardinals (*), Eagles, Giants

AFC: Pats (*), Colts (*), Chargers (*), Bengals (*), Jags, Texans

To be clear, I'm not predicting playoff teams. All I'm saying is that if 6 of last years teams had to be replaced, this is who I'd pick.

I'm curious what your predicitions would be!

I'd say the Bengals need a D before they make the playoffs, much less win their division. Jets have a good shot at the wildcard. I wouldn't count the Packers out until the first couple of games under Rodgers to see how he handles it.

That's true. I was just saying, if I HAD to choose 6, those would be my 6. I'm not advocating that 6 will not make it or the Steelers won't.

It was easy coming up with 4, but the last 2 were difficult. I chose the Steelers because they have one of the hardest schedules in NFL history and 10 wins didn't clinch a playoff spot in the AFC last year. I have a hard time seeing the Steelers win 10 games. Since I had the Steelers out, I had to decide who would win the division. Based on last year I'd say Cleveland, but after seeing them in the preseason I would say no... Cincy underacheived and I think their offense will be better so I went with them.

As far as the Packers go, I could see them going to the playoffs too. I just didn't feel right about leaving out the Giants and I couldn't see any other NFC teams to leave out...

the packers still might make it. you cant count them out yet but they might be the last team in tho.

Ok, so then which 6 teams do you choose to not make the playoffs and which 6 take their spot?

I'm not prediciting playoff teams, I am prediciting playoff teams IF the 6 teams in and out rule would apply.....

Well this didn't really motivate anyone. I thought it was an interesting topic. Guess I'm the only one.... It happens...
