There are 3 Cy ride busses on Ebay. 2 were at 900 dollars and the other at 500 earlier today. Would make great tailgate vehicles.

just go to ebay and type in cyride bus in the search section. there are 3 cyrides and another random bus up there. if i could afford the insurance id definitely buy one for that price since they would be in pretty good shape coming from a transit company

Those are some great looking busses. Perfect tailgating vehicle and all painted in the right colors already. Detroit diesel engines-not too bad. Looks like they've been well maintained.

I worked for CyRide for a few years, and I can vouch that these would be great acquisitions for tailgating buses. They take care of their fleet. And you don't need to put a whole new paint job on them!

A few questions: What does Fair Mechanical condition mean? Do they run?

Also How do you get one of these Insured? Or do you just not bother?

That's the key right there, roughly half a million miles on all of them, there is a reason why they are no longer in the CyRide fleet.

That and the fact they have 15 new hybrid buses and those buses only have a capacity for about 50 people standing.

Fair mechanical condition is probably the best you can expect for a bus that is almost 15 years old with that many miles. Other buses at other transit agencies would be falling apart by now.

If you want it to tailgate and keep in Ames I think they would be great, I wouldn't take them on many roadtrips though.

First bus is gone. Bidding was hot and heavy with 47 bids. The bus went for $3,050. Someone is going to have a great tailgating rig!

I'm pretty mechanically inclined....I do all the work on our cars, maintenance and otherwise. But I would be pretty concerned about getting a bus like that unless I knew someone who had experience in working on them. I bet the maintenance alone would be insane (think about how much it would cost just to replace the tires), and I wouldn't even want to think about the repair costs if there was an engine or transmission issue.

All that said, it would be pretty sweet to have one, if you have a place to store it.

the way we have with our bus is the driver doesn't need a CDL as long as their isnt over 15 passengers.

Be very careful. The required certification is based on the weight of the bus, not the number of passangers. So --- if the bus is of XXX weight, you must have at least a class "B" CDL. If you carry people on that bus, you must have the "Passenger" endorsment. If the bus has air brakes, you must have the "Air Brake" endorsment. Fines and punishment for violation can be very severe.

And anyone with a CDL can tell you, law enforcement is just looking to nail your *** for every little offense. Just leaving the tailgating lot and you get pulled over and get breathalyzed, if you blow right at .02 (legal limit is .08) you will lose your CDL for life and will never be able to drive your bus again.
