Championship game on the line and we lose 24-10 and it wasn't even that close. Someone help put the nightmare of that to bed and tell us why this year will be different. Are we getting our hopes too high or are we conducting a train headed straight for Bevo sleeping on the tracks?

Because it's 2 years later. Anything can happen. If you want a guarantee quit following sports.

Go to the Doc for this paranoia you seem to have. Learn to relax and understand things change over time.

I think this is a game where Manning craps himself again. I think Texas makes us one dimensional and Manning won't have an answer for it. Plus, whenever ISU has knocked on the door, it hasn't turned out well. That is our history. I have been a fan for 52 years, until I actually see us break through, I won't believe we can do it.

The overall depth we have on this team is much better. We beat Texas last year, so the team knows they can beat the name on the jersey. I think the main adversity we will face is the short week vs them having a bye. Campbell kind of left that as an out in his post game when talking about Texas. Texas shows up for big games, so this is going to be a battle. There is nothing I want more than to put the final nail in the coffin for Herman. I hope we somehow route them like we did KSU, but I know it won't happen.

I'm not as pessimistic as this but I don't have a great feeling about this game.

I have the same feelings. Whenever I start to feel really good about football I get a nice glass of cold water dumped on me. I love this team and am really hoping they come out punching Friday. 2018 was so deflating.

And what happens under Campbell’s ISU has exactly zero to do with what happened under previous ISU coaches.
And what’s happened under Campbell in November in the past seems to be something the staff is learning to correct.

The reality is in history ISU always “choked” in big spots because we’ve been historically horrible in football. We’ve had so few big moments that every time it doesn’t go well it is magnified.

No idea what happens Friday but Texas was better in 2018, particularly when it came to the matchup of their Dline vs. ISU's oline.

I also think ISU's dynamics offensively and defensively are currently much better than that season.

Throwing McDonald out in the 2nd level to blitz Saturday? Mercy.

We'll see.

They had a nice segment the other day about how CMC has really taken on this November thing...I'm still weirded out by the Louisiana game but give me a coach that adapts.

You have me by 8 years but yeah, I've had too many football hopes and dreams shattered into tiny little shards that ripped my soul apart. I don't allow myself to think it's going to happen. More just hope and when it does I celebrate the progress of the program.

I've always been one of those "Why NOT ISU?" people. But too too many nut shots to allow for positive expectations.

A couple of things stick out in my mind as far as why we're different this year than 2018..

First, it's Brock Purdy's age and experience. In 2018, Brock started in 1 away game before playing in "the biggest game in ISU's history" @ Texas. The other away game he started in was against KU. He didn't have experience of going into a hostile environment with all of the pressure weighing on his shoulders. It was the first game of his career where he finally looked like a freshman. In year 3, he's played in numerous environments and knows what's at stake.

Second, we have a RB that can change the game on one play. I LOVED David Montgomery, but David was not the type of back Breece is. David was a steady back who's big plays put Brock and our offense into opportunities to succeed. If given any daylight, Breece is gone. Giving the ball to him this year has felt like kickoffs to Kene, where every single time he touches the ball he can go the distance. David also made the worst mistake of 2018 in throwing a punch and being suspended the first half of "the biggest game in ISU's history". That put even more pressure on Brock because he was going to have to do everything in that first half and David was going to come in without a rhythm in the second. We played from behind because of that.

Third, our defense is better. Our defense has only given up 30 or more points one time this year and that one time was against OU. (ULL had 2 special teams TD's, TCU and Baylor had a pick-6) We're making plays, flying to the ball, we're healthy, and we're now on our 4th year running this defensive scheme instead of our 2nd year in 2018. Our defense is also made up primarily of guys that were either playing in this game in 2018 or were watching from the sideline. They remember this game and I can guarantee you want another shot.

Lastly, coaching. Since CMC got here, he's preached about culture, doing the little things, winning in the margins, getting better as a team every single day. Matt has talked and talked and talked about where he sees this football program going and the goals he has had for his teams. Well, here we are. We have an opportunity to achieve the very goal he has talked about from the beginning of his time here. Coach didn't sugar coat it in his press conference after the game either, this is going to be the toughest week for his players and his coaching staff. We're coming off a win in which we played the best all around game I've ever seen, while Texas hasn't played in 3 weeks. I'm in no way saying we're going to blow them out, but I'm extremely confident in this team right now.
