Ya know, being in this spot this late in the season is rare for ISU. And when we are in this spot, we always choke. BUT... Matt Campbell has put an end to A LOT of the negative trends that we are so used to. For all you doubters out there, really think about that for a minute. You know what I'm talking about. Going back several decades, we probably have more negative trends than any other P5 team in the country. Maybe more than any FBS team in the country. But over the last 4 or 5 years, we have slowly seen these trends go away. And because of that, the mindset of this ISU team is completely different that any other era of Iowa State football. These kids have confidence like I have never seen from an ISU team. It's f*****g great! Anyways.....
Texas is probably the scariest team for ISU to go up against because we just don't match up with them all that well. Their QB is great and can make big plays through the air and on the ground. We typically don't do too well against running QBs. Ehlinger has the best o-line in the conference in front of him and they have a bunch of weapons. Their three running backs only have 53, 52 and 51 carries on the year (that is 156 combined... 24 carries less than Breece), and they are coming off of two weeks without a game so they are gonna be fresh and ready to go. Heacock is gonna have to be at the top of his game on Friday, otherwise this could get ugly.
The Longhorns defense is really good against the run but not great against the pass. Manning will have to call a perfect game and Purdy needs to execute and take care of the ball, especially if we can't get Breece going. Our o-line will be overmatched big time. This has to be a mistake free game.
My prediction is that we are down 24-14 at the half and make some adjustments in the locker room, come out and the offense dominates the 2nd half. The defense feeds off of that and we pull off a 35-34 thriller. Mike Rose seals the deal with an INT with 18 seconds left right around midfield. Purdy throw for 328 and 4 TDs and Breece struggles a bit but comes on late, going for 127 and a TD on 25 carries.
Well the main thing is that its 2020 and not 2018.Championship game on the line and we lose 24-10 and it wasn't even that close. Someone help put the nightmare of that to bed and tell us why this year will be different. Are we getting our hopes too high or are we conducting a train headed straight for Bevo sleeping on the tracks?

Our O line has improved SIGNIFICANTLY over the course of the season. Fact. And our beef up front deserves props for sure But this is a bit of a stretch.I don't think our O-line will be over matched big time. We might have the best O-line in the conference.
This is what happens to Bevos on the track when the Cyclone Express (Hall) comes on through...Championship game on the line and we lose 24-10 and it wasn't even that close.
