.

I pretty much agree with the OP. Those who know me here know I have zero tolerance for any bigotry but this seems like nonsense...although I don't know Dolph personally so maybe there's something we don't know???

Dolph didn't say anything most Iowa fans haven't said when he got caught hot mic about Fran's recruiting. Fran really lucked out a kid born a Hawk fan happened to be the type of player who can start in the Big 10 this year. Other than Cook and Garza he's pretty much exclusively relied on born Iowa fans or a few players like White that weren't heavily recruited.

I didn't think it at first, but as this story has developed, I'm now firmly in the camp that it's a Fran-spiracy. There's no other logical explanation.

I mean, it's still hilarious overall 'cuz "f*** the hoks", but I do hold a little sympathy for Dolph. He didn't do anything to deserve it (this time) and he doesn't seem like a bad guy.

I can only hope Fran succeeds in making the narrative of their season to be one of a fissure internally. Don’t let me down, White Magic.

Sure looks like a set up to me. I, like others believe it was simply a comparison to someone you don't want to mess with. Barta and Fran, just stay there.

So I'm probably going to be in the minority on this, but I think dolph probably shouldn't have made the king kong comment and should have issued an apology for it afterwards. But I also want to make it clear that I don't think Dolph is a racist. I also think it's completely ridiculous for the Iowa athletic department to use this to try and push dolph out. It's completely unfair to him. And really, Gary? You're doing this for McCaffery? It's ridiculous to do this for any coach, but especially one like McCaffery.

It also just shows how terrible Iowa is at PR. Like Bryce said, no one was talking about this

1. Stop trying to make this a political thing. Nobody at all was talking about this before Iowa made it an issue today. It wasn't about snowflakes getting pissed off. Literally nobody was saying anything. This is completely about Barta and Fran wanting to get rid of Dolph.

2. Instead of being a man and just canning him, he had to go and be a total coward and slap the racist tag on him. Without getting too political, of course racism is still a problem, and obviously more of one than I realized 5 years ago. However, "King Kong" is part of the lexicon describing a total badass. When Denzel yelled "King Kong ain't got **** on me" at the end of training day, he wasn't saying he was blacker than King Kong. He was saying he was the ultimate badass. That's how Dolph was using it.

3. You guys know I've defended Iowa and McCaffery on this board many times. Many, many times. But let's call a spade a spade here: if you are trying to drum up racist charges against somebody because you are too much of a coward to fire them, that is evil behavior. It makes you a bad person. I'm honestly going to have to take a break from talking about Iowa basketball and probably sports in general, because IMO I can't separate what is going to happen on the court from this situation. I've enjoyed good natured ribbing in the past but I just can't here. I hope Fran loses every game by 100. And I can honestly say I rooted for them when we didn't play them before now.

Would agreed with you but I can't honestly say I ever root for them. I might not root against them buuuut can't say I root for them. That Stanford Rose Bowl game a few yrs ago was glorious IMO.

Well he did apologize, but when the comment was made it seemed to be so innocuous he had no reason to even think there was even a apology needed IMO. I agree with the rest of your statement though Woo.

He had no reason to apologize (have no idea if he did or not).

Pettiness has won the day.

Fran is such a complicated person. On the court he's a total jerk, cry baby, hyperbolic. In his interviews he is calm, collected, still mad, but well spoken. Behind the scenes he's conniving, calculated. On the recruiting trail he's a smiley glad hand with a Hawkeye logo on. Only unifying trait is his arrogance. Love me some Mad Fran.

I just hope it comes out that McCaffrey and Barta teamed up to get Dolph out of there.... that they were just waiting for him to say something else they could nail him on.

Maryland it seems never complained at all about what Dolph said. So who did? Who has wanted Dolph gone more than anyone else? Yep, Mad Fran. I don't know how the Iowa fans can cheer on that turd.
