Yes the team looks out of whack at times and yes I do question Prohm at times. But we all have to remember most of what is on the floor are recruits catered to Fred's playing style, not Prohm's.

That's not to say he doesn't have talent to work with because he does. It is just going to take some time to figure out the best way to rotate the talent he has and make their playing styles gel.

I think the Tech game showed Prohm he can lean on his bench guys more than he previously had and that he can't be afraid to sit a starter for big chunks of the game if the team is playing better w/o him that night.

All the many Kenpom worshipers should know this team is roughly as good as any of our previous 5 tournament teams so clearly no cause for concern.

We are a really weird Kenpom team. This team is much better defensively to this point than the previous ones and that's without much for rim protection. Really, what needs to happen is Young and Bowie continue to do what they're doing, Burton needs to be a little more efficient offensively (his non-scoring production has actually been pretty good), and those guys coming off the bench have to be just about what they were in those last 10 minutes.

Also, guys who have proven to be good shooters need to make shots they've made in the past. I'd really like to keep seeing that aggressive Naz too. I've always felt he had more ability at the rim than he usually showed.

I recorded the game and am re-watching it right now. With 9:09 left in the game, Tech is up 52-43. That means Tech scored 4 points in the final 9 minutes. That's damn impressive on our end defensively

That's because they just started missing shots. Don't you know teams scored a lot in the Fred era because we are ISU and every loss is because teams and players coincidentally always shot out of there minds. Now that Fred is gone we are a little less ISU so now only in 75% of games do guys go off. It has zero to do with our defense, it was straight up curse.

I rewatched the game, and really came away impressed with Nick Babb. Just seemed to be so active and involved all the time.

What do you have to say about Prohm having a better offense with essentially the same roster and a checked out McKay for half the season?
Clearly that was because of Niang. However Fred gets credit for the offense when Niang was here because Fred made Niang into the player he was. Am I doing this right?

What I really hate is how Prohm is figuring the roles out for newcomers and veterans to be able to mesh together as the season goes on, like what Fred did pretty much the entire season every year except his last when everything was perfect and they never lost.

If this team get some things figured out and makes the tourney at just an 8-10 seed it's going to be because that's what Fred would have wanted.

I think that they need to start Morris, Long, Thomas, Bowie and Young. Bring Burton, NWB, and Jackson off the bench to provide a spark. Holden only when there's foul trouble or they're getting eaten up inside. Man, what I'd give for an Anthony Booker on this team.

Yikes. That's the last thing this team needs. Another post that thinks he's a 3pt sniper but really is just a big body that can't shoot, or block out, or defend, or rebound, or score in the post.

Sr. Niang vs Jr, So, Fr Niang. NBA draft pick Nader vs. mid major transfer Nader. I could have had a better offense.

Agree for the most part, but I don't think a jump in offense was a slam dunk for a few reasons:
- basically swap BDJ and Hogue for Burton
- lose Naz in season
- Major improvement is never a given. Plus guys like Niang, Morris and Thomas weren't projects with a major gap between current performance and ceiling. They certainly did get better, especially MT

It would've been great to see last years offense under Hoiberg. Would Nader have made the jump he did? Seems like Prohm pushed the right buttons with him. Would McKay have regressed? Seems like Fred pushed the right buttons with him.

Without looking it up I don't think McKay regressed that much stat wise. Probably in blocks he went down. It's easy to get clouded on McKay last year because of the drama.

McKay had his issues, but he was a stud in college basketball. Fans can deride him for only making lob or fast break dunks - but he got 5-6 of them a game. They still count as points.

And rebounds, blocks, and altered shots count too. This years team would be a top 25 team easily with a guy like that in the middle.
