.

We have to start pressing and running. Our half court offense is pretty brutal.

Our D is ok, we will struggle on the glass in the B12.

But if we can score on the break, we can still be a dangerous team.

Agree, it appears that way. But will the press be effective 'all' game or was it effective because it caused Tech to get rattled and it was a change? Do we have the depth to do it the whole game?.... and I only say that because I can't see Bowie,Holden or Burton for that matter being good at it. So you're wearing down guys like Monte and Naz who are already playing 38 minutes.

I didn't think Tech looked very good yesterday and they certainly did nothing in the non conference to prove they are a good team. They played one top 100 kenpom team, number 97 Auburn, and lost and had narrow wins over the only other two top 150 teams they played.

They are a bad passing team, how many unforced turnovers did they have yesterday? They did a good job of rebounding and being patient on offense in the first half, but once we started getting after them on defense we saw how poor their offense was.

TT is not good at all. Their guards are not good and made numerous bad mental passing mistakes(unforced errors). Mostly TT melted down to Hilton Magic crowd noise, which happens to most teams at Hilton. They did seem to be a patient well coached team but not talented. Credit the Clones for turning up the heat in the final minutes but we did not beat a good team.

Not saying I have any clue how Tech will stack up the rest of the way, but to say they are "not good at all" is an exaggeration, imo. Zach Smith (leaps out of the gym) and Livingston have the bodies and have more talent than any front court player we have. Sure they may not have first team all conference guards but they have talent and were able to deny Monte segments of the game.

We're 4th nationally in FG% defense. Opponents are shooting 36% from the floor against us. That is crazy so the sky is falling posters might want to at least give credit for that

I don't see much of a problem with the defense except having Young in there looked like it completely changed what Tech was doing and good looks close were rare.

He didn't get the score, but him getting his own offensive rebound and banging around seemed to serve notice too and opened things up a bit.

Our D is actually very good. Great to see, just need to fine tune the players roles and the motion of the half court and I think we are a top 15 team. That of course depends on player consistentcy.

35-25 at half offense was stagnant, it's obvious when we work the ball our shot % goes up dramatically. I'd attribute that to effort.

Defense absolutely needs to improve and that's always about effort.

2000 was a special team that lacked height but they had the ability to shut you down.
All about effort!

They also had someone who wasn't NPOY only because of Kenyon Martin, Jamal Tinsley, very serviceable posts and pretty much any guard could handle really well. Look up the UCLA game and notice how unpredictable the ball was even if someone dribbled around the outside a bit.

This year's team doesn't have any players like that, and you're going to be hard pressed to find a team at ISU where the starts align for such a group.

Our defense has been ridiculous this year

Really don't need to look it up, I was there and Minneapolis the week prior and KC the week before that. I'm well aware this year's team doesn't have that talent.

The point is Larry ran their dicks into the dirt for a reason. They gave max effort for 40 minutes. This team takes short cuts, but when they play right they are very good and can dig out of deficits quickly.

Glad to see you are finally onboard with Young.

Yep I think he does what we need better than the others. Which is basically compete. And this might be counter-intuitive but I really liked that he took that 3 late in the game. Keep shooting big man.

He hit a couple in very early games I believe. Looked like a smooth shot with plenty of confidence.

This season and next we need someone to come up and surprise in order to be better than we think and if that is a big guy that can stretch a defense all the better.

Does this mean Fred makes the players better athletes too?

So far this season Fred is remembered for never doing the following:
Losing at Iowa, losing non-conference games at home, losing in the Big 12 tourney, losing early in the first round of the NCAA's, losing to Texas Tech, giving up late leads, never being behind at home, and not recruiting for the future.
He could coach, Prom cannot.

I feel kind of bad for Prohm. A certain section of this fanbase will never give him a fair chance

Agree. Also wonder how many years it will be before he doesn't hear the Fred questions from media, fans. So far, CSP has said all of the right things when asked what is like to follow the great one.

Not only has he said the right things, I think he's gone above and beyond. After almost every big win last year, he made a special mention to acknowledge Fred. He wouldn't have had to do that. He walked into a great situation in many ways, but he also walked into something that could have been a disaster. He handled it with grace.

The answers are simple for this team:
1) mostly 4 guard lineups with that token pressure
2) Young starts and plays 20 minutes +
3) run, run, run

I would add...

4) Pass, pass, pass. When we move the ball around and make the extra pass, we are very good. When someone dribbles way too much and everyone else finds themselves standing and watching, we are very bad.
