.

There are at least three or four no-brainers that need to go up in my opinion, maybe five. I will list some of their stats and accomplishments even though the more recent guys will be obvious numbers you might already know. Seeing them listed usually helps me decide.

The locks:
5 - Marcus Fizer
Career averages: 18.9 ppg, 7.7 rebs pg
6th all-time in points scored at ISU with 1,830
All-Century team
Consensus 1st-team All-American
1st-team All-Big 12 twice
Big 12 POY
Runner-up National POY
Team's best finish: Elite 8 (FU Izzo)

31 - Georges Niang
Career averages: 16.1 ppg, 5.2 rebs pg
2nd all-time in points scored at ISU with 2,228
Multi-year All-American
1st-team All-Big 12 twice
Team's best finish: Sweet 16

11 - Monte Morris
Career averages: 10.8 ppg, 5.3 apg
Has a shot to be career leader in steals/assists (current leader in those categories' jersey is hanging already)
NCAA record holder in assist-to-turnover ratio, season and career
Pre-season All-American
2nd-team All-Big 12
Team's best finish: Sweet 16

Strong cases that should be hung at some point:
52 - Victor Alexander
Career averages: 17.1 ppg, 7.3 rebs pg
61.1 % career shooter (ISU record)
5th all-time in points scored at ISU with 1,892
All-Century team
1st-team All-Big 8 twice
Team's best finish: First Round NCAA Tourney

3 - Melvin Ejim
Career averages: 12.2 ppg, 7.8 rebs pg
2nd all-time in rebounds at ISU with 1,051
13th all-time in points scored at ISU with 1,643
Big 12 POY
1st-team All-Big 12
2nd-team All-American
Team's best finish: Sweet 16

Probably long shots but deserving:
24 - Jake Sullivan
Career averages: 14.7 ppg, .424 3-point %, .896 FT%
1st all-time at ISU in 3's (270), FT % (.896)
8th all-time in points scored at ISU with 1,810
All-Century team
3rd-team All-Big 12
Team's best finish: First Round NCAA Tourney

11 - Jamaal Tinsley
Career averages: 12.2 ppg, 6.3 apg, 2.6 spg
Holds single-season records for assists (244) and steals (98)
All-Century team
Big 12 POY
1st-team All-Big 12 twice
2nd-team All-American
Team's best finish: Elite 8

50 - Bill Cain
Career averages: 19.5 ppg, 12.4 rebs pg
Holds ISU records for rebounds in a game (26), season (396) and average rebs for a season (15.2)
16th all-time at ISU in points with 1,498
4th all-time at ISU in rebounds with 957
1st-team All-Big 8 twice
Team's best finish: N/A

This posts reminds me that while Monte is very likely to pass Hornacek's steals/assists career records, it'll still be interesting to see if he catches Tinsley's single season in either or both. My guess is he breaks Tinsley's assist record but not steals. Will be close.

Who from the above list graduated? And yes that is relevant.
Sorry, but Fizer is not a lock. It's been 15 yrs already. How long did it take for Hoiberg's to hang? Or, anyone else's for that matter?

Depending on someone's own viewpoint Fizer should be a lock. He was at worst the second best player in the nation and ISU was at worst a top five team in the nation.

Fizer gave up a ton to even come back for his junior year, he didn't graduate but he gave more to ISU than a typical sophomore projected as a mid to late first round draft pick would give. After his junior year projected top 5 there's no way any player stays.

Simply put, as I've said before, if Fizer doesn't get in because he wasn't a 4 year player then someone like Ejim has to be a lock. Nobody with Fizer's NBA scouting report is ever going to have a 4 year career like Ejim in this era, unless maybe their family happens to be billionaires already.

I'm not sure exactly. I thought he was a juco, then played his jr and sr years here. But Im not entirely sure now.
Tinsley graduated with an AA degree from a Cali JC. That was the only way to be eligible for NCAA div 1 since he didn't have a HS degree. He played two years and I believe he pretty much folded up camp as soon as BB season was done to prepare for the draft so he never got a degree from ISU.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't remember that well, Ive tried to forget that two or three months after Tinsley's last game. I don't think I watched another game in that tournament.

A final four appearance. That stands out from the others. Then it's a lock IMO.

I'm surprised how many think that Morris shouldn't get it. Barring a crazy, awful thing happening, he will hold the assist record.

Assists are important, but I'm really a scoring guy myself, and I also think wins this year will really be how I remember Monte. This is the year he could step up into ISU greatness, IMO.

Niang is a no brainer, he will be the next jersey hung from the rafters but they will wait a few years before that happens. Both what he accomplished on and off the court is right up there with the impact Fred had. Monte likely will some day too, if he has a killer senior year it will be sooner than later. Ejim is deserving but if you do your homework on the jerseys currently hanging it is a very select group so it's 50/50 if he gets the honor. Performance alone Fizer is probably the best player ever to wear a Cyclone uniform but not graduating and his off court problems will likely keep him away from the honor.

Probably thinks a bit of a "slower" start to the senior campaign and arguably the worst/most frustrating game of Monte's college career will erase his 3 years of excellence in the eyes of people who make the decision to hang jerseys. (not my thoughts, and totally an assumption and possible dramatization of what isuno1fan's thoughts might be)

I think Monte is a decent candidate to get his jersey in the rafters, but not a guarantee. Niang without a doubt. Still a lot of time this season for Monte to get himself right and do some really special things as an individual even if the team continues to struggle.

His numbers are better than last year and he's playing fewer minutes. He had a bad game last night but he's not been bad this year. Plus he's been playing very good defensively this year too

I think you have to wait to see what kind of season Morris has. If he is not an all american it will be hard to put his jersey up there.

As much as I liked Fizer I think Royce White owns that honor. That man was amazing in college. Probably the best I've ever seen.(I'm not that old)
