Games already in the books on opening day. There will be two outdoor games this season at Lake Tahoe and the divisions have been updated for the season.

My CBJ just signed their best player (PLD) to a bridge deal last week and now he’s already trying to get traded. We added Max Domi and Miko Koivu in the middle and also kept our two all star caliber goaltenders.

if we can stay in contention for the playoffs we have PLD and one of the G’s as trading chips.

What is a bridge deal? Watching the Blackhawks have their hands full with tb

PLD was an RFA, he could have signed for anything. 5 years, 8 years, 10 years. NHL guys like the longer deals. PLD is 23 he could have secured his future with this deal. He chose to take a two year deal which basically signals he wants out but isn’t going to **** the CBJ over totally by running out his current deal and becoming a UFA where CBJ would get nothing in return.

Oh I get the logic but I haven't heard that term. It's apt though

Also this way he’s attractive to other teams because he won’t just be a rental if they make a trade this year. The new team will get a chance to have him for a year and try him out and get him signed long term.

There are rumors he wants out because several of his teammates are big MAGAs.
 
I'm not a Rangers fan, but I'm kind of glad they got Lafreneire. Its good or the NHL for New York to have a star.

True, I should have said 'another star'. I'm a wings fan so I'm still bummed we slipped to the 4 pick, but I am glad he isn't in a place like the Florida Panthers - no offense to them, but more star power in New York will hopefully mean more interest in the NHL as a whole.
 
Is icing being waved off a lot more liberally these days? Seems less enforced that it was when i played at 8ish/watched growing up in the mid 90s.

I’m surprised they didn’t give old Stevie Y another favorable call and get the Wings the first pick.:p

I'm just so glad to see hockey back! Been a good first couple days. As a Caps fan, it was really really weird to see Chara in a Caps uniform. That guy just towers over everyone. The Caps social media put up a video of Kuzy using his stick and it looked like he had a javelin.

I'm just hoping Ovi can bring another Cup to DC!
 
Minnesota Wild win first game in overtime 4 - 3 (at L.A. Kings). Great start to the new season !
 
Huge trade by NHL standards today. CBJ sends PLD (who has been pouting, then benched) and a ‘22 3rd rd pick to WPG for PATRICK LAINE and Roslovic (a CBus native).

Tons of stuff in this trade. Laine was the 2nd overall pick in ‘16 followed by PLD at #3. Roslovic was a 1st rounder in ‘15.

Laine comes from Finland and CBJ has a big Finnish presence in the organization so prospects of him signing a new deal at some seems likely. Roslovic has already signed for 2 yrs since the trade.

WPG gets PLD. PLD’s dad works for the AHL team in WPG so he should be okay there even though he wanted a “bigger stage”.

Laine immediately improves CBJ’s offense and PP (elite PP goal scorer, potentially elite scorer). Comp would be Ovenchkin in terms of game but probably Stamkos from a production level, a huge wing sniper.

PLD give WPG an all arounder on their 2nd line with potential to be a 80 point guy. PLD is a pretty unique C kind of like Neal but better. WPG not pulling any D-men out of CBJ in this deal is a big miss for them.

Welp unfortunately the sun caused Ice issues and now will pick the game back up at Midnight Eastern. :eek:
