Redskins: looks like Rivera is a slam dunk there

Jags and Cowboys should open up soon.

Sounds like the Cowboys fired their entire coaching staff. (Twitter rumors)

The Cowboys isn’t the worst job. Jones at least doesn’t ever seem like he’s afraid to spend money, the expectation and pressure there is just always sky high. The Redskins, though, Snyder is the absolute worst, and until he’s gone, that franchise will continue to be awful.

Teams aren't going to stop trying to make somebody successful in the Belichick coaching tree.

Teams sure have short memories. It's been less than two years since McDaniels got cold feet and backed out of the Indy job after some of his coaching staff had already signed their contracts and started working.

The Cowboys job is a mixed bag. Jones is patient to a fault and not afraid to spend. But whoever gets the job also concedes control of the roster entirely to Jones.
And nobody's sure what that team will look like next year, either. They have over twenty players who are scheduled to hit free agency (including Amari Cooper) and Dak's contract situation still has to get sorted out.

I do kind of wonder if Mike Zimmer or Bill O'Brien will be in trouble if either lose in the first round. I think expectations in Minnesota were a little higher than a loss in the wild card round, and O'Brien has mortgaged the future in Houston just to make the playoffs this year.

I can't imagine Zimmer gets let go. The guy has a higher winning percentage than any coach in their history besides Denny Green or Bud Grant. Unless they're planning on handing the reins over to Stefanski or Kubiak, I can't see them moving on after a playoff season.

Ron Rivera to the Redskins is official. Why wouldn't he hold out and see if the Cowboys or Giants want him. That Washington gig is awful.

Or take a year off to recharge and then jump back in. Worst job in the league.

You're probably right. But it's not unheard of for a playoff team to fire their coach. And he's a lame duck coach next season. If they don't plan on extending him then it maybe makes more sense to move on now if they think Stefanski or someone else is their guy, especially if the Vikes lose ugly next weekend. All totally speculative, though. In all likelihood he's probably safe.
