I know it's early, but I saw that Monte is listed in 3 Mock Drafts so far, and wanted to post before I forgot. Also allows us going forward to have a place to discuss.

One has him going 30th (tankathon), and then the other 2 have him in the first 15 of the second round.

I am excited to see what type of buzz Monte has around him coming into the draft, it is always fun when you see their name up in the mock draft boards.

I don't follow the NBA at all. Anyone know what teams would be a good fit for Monte? Somewhere that needs PG help where he could get a chance to play consistently?

I saw him mocked a while back to San Antonio. I would think Popovich might be able to use a weapon like Monte to his full capacity.

I think San Antonio is the obvious choice. Just because of their past of successfully developing solid traditional PG's.
I kinda like his being pegged with the Jazz and Rockets, and those are 2 teams I had not really thought about before seeing him there. The Jazz have a lot of impressive pieces to place around a pass-first PG, which you would have to assume Monte will be coming into the League. He could be a good backup option that comes in, doesn't turn the ball over, and has a positive impact on the game while he is in there. They have alot of guards but most of them are like 6'6' and above, so room for a PG to maybe slide in. For the Rockets, being a no-mistake PG, along-side James Harden would be interesting. He would have to beat out Patrick Beverley for the backup spot, though. Isaiah Taylor is on that team though, and Monte is certainly a better option than him, one would think.

I think a lot of teams would like to have a player like Monte, but maybe aren't willing to waste a pick on a backup pg at best. The best thing that could happen for Monte is he go to a team with a winning culture, and back-up a quality PG that is willing to take Monte under his wing.

He's not going to be a starter, but if he lands at a place that needs a solid backup PG that can take care of the ball and run the 2nd unit, he's going to stick for a long time.

I happened to catch the end of the Mavs/Thunder game last night. Come to find out Quinn Cook is on the Mavs roster! He was a solid college player, had no idea he would be in the league. Same with Aaron Craft and TJ McConnell....No doubt Monte has the skills and heart to play in that league. Just needs to find the right spot and make the most of his opportunity.

I don't follow the NBA at all either. Is it typical for nearly all of the first round picks to be either international players or one-and-done college players, or is this year an anomaly? It looks like all three draft projections listed follow that formula.

I know the NBA puts a premium on age and I knew there were a significant amount of one-and-dones, but I guess I just didn't realize they made up such a huge percentage of the first round.

I just hope that he lands with a stable organization that puts a emphasis on developing its own. I'd hate to see him end up in a situation where there's no clear direction or leadership structure. Unfortunately there just aren't very many of those in the league and everyone can't play for the Spurs.

Early Mock Drafts always have a bunch of European/Intl players sprinkled throughout. That will change once we get closer to the draft. But yeah, one and done's and Intl players are the usual people projected, unless there is a player like Buddy or Valentine last year, that are highly regarded players that stayed one year longer than expected, and enhanced their resume more. But unfortunately, the NBA has a tendency to stay away from the 4-year seniors.

Which team fits best is a little tricky because he's probably not a full time starter anyway, and almost every team could use a steady back up like him.

Similar to a guy like DJ Augustine, who back-ups a young playmaker Elfrid Payton. Raymond Felton still gets minutes behind Chris Paul.

Kings need a PG pretty badly. Magic could use one also.
I know that this is a dumb question, and it gets brought up every year. But, here it goes, if you were Monte, would you rather get drafted by a team like the Kings and have a better chance to play right away but it may mean topping out quicker and potentially a lower ceiling. Or get drafted by a San Antonio where you know you are going to be #2 in line for a while, but you build your character/game/overall ability to have a longer career, but maybe not as many minutes/accolades/etc.?

I don't know the answer to the philosophical question, but I do know you never ever ever want to be drafted by the Kings.

Best case for Monte, in my mind, would be the Clippers, even if he starts as 3rd string. Chris Paul is his best comp in the league, and learning from him would be best in the long term.
