I still don't get it. You sound like you are contradicting yourself. We have him committed now and think he might dump us to go elsewhere if he gets a better offer. Not much we can do about that. We've done all we can including getting a verbal. At the same time, you are saying we shouldn't have offered him in case he doesn't blow up or gets hurt. Well, we can't predict the future 100% but I'm sure a lot of thought went into this offer.
Sounds like you want a no-risk situation. There isn't one. You have be to willing gamble some unless you are Duke, Kansas, or UNC.
I'm not saying that I don't like us offering him Every coach is now doing it, so we have to offer good players in our back-yard early. I understand that completely. I just don't like anyone offering him. He's 14. I just wish there was a rule in place to protect kids that young. There is no need for their recruitment to start that early. However, under the rules we have, this is a nice pickup if it works out over the next four years.

Also protect them from going to college on a full ride scholly and playing basketball. I see no downside.

Perhaps what he is getting at is the fact that a 9th grader may not be in the best position to make a decison on where they would like to pursue their higher education quite yet.
So what. If all else fails he will get a great education for free. It's not like he joined the Marines and has to go fight a war because of something he did that young.

I have purposely stayed out of this thread until now, and I guess I wish I would have just stayed out. That being said, a kid committing anywhere, or a school accepting and recruiting a kid that age, is stupid/crazy/ridiculous.

I like the thought of having point guards that aren't just one dimensional, so the other team has to guard them hard (Yes I still can see the look in Jacque Vaughn's eyes as those 3's rained in from the PG he never thought would shot them!) I also like the thought of a PG with size, I assume Wesley will either grow into a big PG or a good 2-guard with great handles) with the option coming of the bench of a Tyrone Lue-ish waterbug quick change of pace.

Don't sell Wichita State short, either. They've done a pretty good job of recruiting Wichita talent that is NBA caliber over the years, and the basketball program at WSU is the top sport draw in the city. Like HB and ISU, i'm certain they'll be on his short list.
When you say its harmful for a kid to commit at a young age you make it sound like he has to. Look at HB, the kid has had an offer for basically his entire HS career yet he dosnt feel the need to commit anywhere. No kid has to commit anywhere when they are that young they are just given the opportunity. There dosnt really need to be a rule against it, becasuse no one is forcing anyone to do anything!
