Just thought that I would update that 2010 Men's BB recruit scored 30 points and grabbed 12 boards in Rock Valley's recent win over Boyden-Hull who were the conference leaders at the time.

Thanks for the update, mucho appreciated! Anybody who has info on this kid would be greatly appreciated....I've heard opinions spanning from "he's trash" to "he's the next great Iowa State power forward".

Were you at the game nohawks? If so, how'd he look?

I laugh at the people that call a 14 year old kid trash playing his first year of serious basketball. Hell the greatest player ever in the NBA wasn't even good enough to make his JV team as a freshman. Northwest Iowa is pretty serious basketball and anybody who can pour in 30 points as a freshman is going to be good, I don't care how tall you are or how big your school is

Hes the kid that commited to GMac before ever playing HS bball, right? Hes like 6'8" already. I forgot about him already. Keep the updates coming. Itll be interesting to follow his career before he becomes a Clone.

Last season the Siouxland Conference that Rock Valley plays in won the 1A title (George-Little Rock) and lost the 3A title to Harlan in OT (MOC-FV).

The scary thing is that Dykstra's point guard is also a Freshman. Oh, ya, he is just as tall (6'7-6'8) as Dykstra. The team looks great at times and sometimes looks like a team led by 2 Freshmen. I think come tourney time they will be pretty tough.

I have a cousin who lives in Rock Valley and I asked him about this kid. From my cousin's point of view, this kid is going to be pretty good....apparently he's still growing too.

Heemstra's playing PG? I thought he was playing the forward position opposite Dystra? Has anyone seen Heemstra play as well? Pretty amazing having 2 6-8" freshman players at a 1A school.

Van Coleman has Dykstra listed as a Top 40 prosepect in the nation in th e class of 2010. Trust me, this kid is the real deal and we will be hearing a lot about him in the next few years while he is in high school.

I'm hearing from my hometown buddies that this kid will be great. NW Iowa basketball, especially at the Dutch schools, is pretty competative. For this kid to do what he is doing, at his age, in his league is impressive. I'm glad DMac got in on this kid early.

Hopefully he's good to his word and we can hang on to this kid. If he's as good as advertised by people here, the big boys are gonna come a knockin. It always makes me nervous when a kid commits that early...

Van Coleman has Dykstra rated as the number 28 best player for the 2010 class... and the person ranked one ahead of him at 27 is another IA player :biggrin9gp: Has anyone heard of A.J. Derby? hes a combo guard from Iowa City standing 6'4, could be a big year for recruiting the state of IA!

Different recruiting services will have different rankings. Another another national recruiting service has Dykstra as #185 among all Freshman. What's nice about Coleman is that he's based out of North Liberty and has a chance to evaluate Dykstra on more than one occasion.

Ratings are nice but after years of watching recruits come and go, the main thing is that GMac brings in people who fit his system and are willing to work hard to become better players...

Derby has to decide if he is going to play football or basketball. Some people think that Derby may end up being a Brandon Meyers type player in basketball but I think his potential is better than Brandon's.
