Tim Beckham #1 overall, Gordon Beckham #8 to the Sox, Aaron Hicks to the Twins, Cubs up in a couple.

Yeah, the ESPN live tracker is keeping everyone well updated... Cubs go pitching IMO in the 1st round... just seems they've been tracking that way from everything i've read.

Cashner could get to the big leagues this year. On his best days, he has two pitches that grade as 60. The slider is at 88 mph, and it's an out pitch. And he can run his fastball up to 98 mph. There's a question about his command; can he command his pitches? If he can, he can get to the big leagues right away as an impact relief pitcher.

Who did the A's take for their first pick?

Richie Weeks' lil brother
12Oakland AthleticsJemile Weeks2BMiami This is the riskiest pick so far. He can't play anywhere but second base in the infield, so he has to hit well enough to be a major league regular. He's a plus runner; he needs to be more contact-oriented with wood. With metal, he's too pull-oriented, and he'll have to adjust that. He has a better chance to be a plus defender at second base than his brother, Rickie Weeks.

It's just amazing that the staff is available for all the kids that get picked to have been seen by someone, somewhere. It's just a ridiculous amount, and i realize that each organization has something close to 200 players in it, so you need to fill out the rosters in the minors and such, but that's just an absurd amount of time you have to look into kids that will never get to the show, EVER

I think something like 98% of all players that sign a pro contract will never see the Majors. Something like 20% of first rounders ever make it.

Is it just me or is it hard to have the motivation to stay up on this stuff. You never know who is really going to make it, and sometimes even a very low round players becomes a bigger success than your round 1 picks. Just completely different than football.

ya i think mike piazza was at least later than the 10th not sure what round exactly and he's one of the best hitting catchers of all time

The following players have been drafted with Iowa ties....
186 Twins Brett Hermansen West Delaware HS (IA) 6'6" RHP
246 Twins Jeffrey Lanning U New Orleans (Ankeny) 6'2" C
268 Marlins Daniel Jennings U Nebraska (WDM Valley) 6'3" LHP
343 Tigers Brandon Douglas UNI (St. Charles) 6' SS
531 Indians Mitchell Morman DMACC 6'6" RHP

There are millions of baseball fans in this country. Why is it that the baseball draft isn't as big of a deal as the other major sports?
