100-0 Girls HS B-ball game

that's unfortunate. As an alum of a private high school its very disappointing to see that sort of lack of sportsmanship - pressuring the ball until late in the 4th quarter in this sort of blowout is really low.

thats terrible how a team would run the score up that high. shows lack of respect responsibility and sportsmanship absolutley disgustin. they should've let them score at least and stop trying at 30-0

You would think just by chance you would be able to throw up a shot and hit it just once in an entire game.

I think that is the worst part. After halftime they should have taken off the pressure and put in the backups.

No ****. When you are up 80 f'n points, you quit putting pressure on the ball. Stealing it when you're up 80 is Bush League if you're a player too. If I was one of the girls, I'da laid the point guard out flat and if I was a spectator, wouldn't have been mad to see it. We got beat 26-5 in baseball my senior year by Eagle Grove (they hit everything either to the gap, or over the fence) and their coach had them going station to station at 20-3. If they'da been trying to take all their bases, I wouldn't have felt bad at all calling for chin music, or asking to pitch and taking care of it. There's absolutely no reason in any high school sports to cream a team that bad.

(beating Eagle Grove 3-1 in the return game tasted sweet though )

I happened to see a youth girl's league game in Ankeny a couple of weeks ago in which a bit older team kept up the pressure by stealing the ball continuously. Allowing one shot and fast breaking. The younger of the teams had no chance.. Final score was 54 - 0 .. It was painful to see for the losing team although the winning team's coach should have been aware of what was happening and called off the defense. That kind of sportsmanship sucks..

The coach should have been suspended if not terminated. There is absolutely no excuse for something so ridiculous.

Unfortunately this happens all too often in youth athletics. Coaches have starters in ball games when they are up by 30-40 points, running the press, etc. All the while, the reserves are left sitting on the bench until less than a minute in the game when they call time-out to let them in... which is really to give the starters an applause.

I'm all for competition, playing hard and so forth, but when it is a total mismatch - show some class, sportsmanship, character and do all you can to basically not score. Stall, whatever.

30 points is one thing - 60 points is absurd.

Sorry for the rant... I just get disgusted when I see this stuff going on.

This somewhat reminds me of Kirkwood's Women's team (Toccara Ross former school). 2 time defending national champions, currently ranked #1 in the nation at 19-1. I think the closest conference game was a 25 point win in Des Moines over then #1 ranked DMACC.

Kirkwood shows much more respect than the team in this article though. The leading scorer averages 12 a game and all but one girl averages over 5 per game. no superstars, all team.

Aren't you all the same guys/gals that, in the midst of a blowout on the gridiron and the offense is still playing for points, are the ones that are quick to say that "it's the defense's job to stop them from scoring and not the offense's job to let up for them?"

Granted, I think this was a ********* move and I'm not in favor of what the guy did, but I sense a lot of hypocrisy with this thread.

Its unfortunate I'll agree but I'm shocked that the other team couldnt manage to luck in a basket here and there. I've played on some lousey teams before and still were able to make a few baskets.

Got to love the coach, 'it just happened.' :err:

Why does this ****** school even have a basketball team? I doubt the team that won was having fun. Those types of games, even games that are closer, like 60-25, are nightmares for both teams. I've been on both sides of a 60-25 (or so) game, and it's not fun being on either side. You basically just want the game to end.

I can't imagine the winning team was playing balls (or whatever the female equivalent is) to the wall. On defense, maybe you stop blocking shots and trying for steals, but you still want to stay in front of your man. On offense, what can you do? If you tell your team that they can only play left-handed or that they have to make 10 passes before a shot, it just embarrasses the terrible team more.

I really don't see why these two teams were playing each other. Everyone, the players, coaches, fans, and refs, walks away from the game embarrassed. The terrible team needs to find other terrible competition or not field a team.

I think you're way off base here. I don't see how what you're saying there even applies to this situation. They're talking about sportsmanship, not what the purpose of defense is on the basketball court.
