Living and dying on the defensive rebound

Found this telling.... Seems to support the hypothesis that Lard going for blocks is giving the opposing team more offensive rebounds.

Living and dying on the defensive rebound

"Great" is overstating it, but I would argue Jacobson is currently the team's best rebounder- which is probably why are even talking about rebounding. Jacobson does not rebound outside his area, but he is the best at getting in position and has pretty good hands. It is important to note that...

Living and dying on the defensive rebound

Since ISU primarily plays man defense we should generally be in good position to get defensive rebounds (or prevent offensive rebounds). ISU switches a lot on defense which might create some "rebounding" mismatches, but I think this is a non-factor. Also, our guards actually do a pretty good job...

Living and dying on the defensive rebound

I would say all other things being equal, ISU is losing most of it games because of allowing too many offensive rebounds (aka not getting defensive rebounds). ISU's defensive efficiency is about 65% correlated to its defensive rebounding rate- which is an anomaly compared to other CBB good...

Living and dying on the defensive rebound

This team lives and dies on the defensive rebound. It is the #1 way to beat this team and the data supports this assertion. 1. This home loss vs. Baylor is frustrating to the same ilk as @iowa, @Baylor, KSU, and TCU. The common thread is the inability to get defensive rebounds. 2. If this team...

Hoiberg will attend the Baylor game (AS A FAN!)

JFC, first it is a Prohm vs. Hoiberg pissing match and now it is arguing Ejim's importance? You could possibly argue Ejim was not the best player, but he was critical part of ISU MBB's resurgence and establishing a culture. Maybe polemics is the just preferred rhetorical technique today on CF...

    Wigginton looks great

Does starting matter when you get starter-like minutes and have some of the highest usage on the team? It appears Wigginton has embraced his temporary role and having a player that dynamic “relieving” the 1st unit makes this team better. It is working.

Magic eight - SI picks ISU as one of 8 that could win it all

Well, you were one that implied Purdue and Virginia were mid-major programs. It is too early to judge Prohm on the NCAA tournament quite yet.

...are you qualified to make this judgement of others?

Ohhhh, the gambler's fallacy is strong with you.

Breaking down Iowa State’s 2019 recruiting class (Boyd)

Probably this biggest takeaway is that ISU has an identity and recruits accordingly- and probably recruits their system better than most teams. ISU doesn't get the best recruits, but most of the recruits really fit what they are trying to do.

Breaking down Iowa State’s 2019 recruiting class (Boyd)

Anything football related from Ian Boyd is always a good read. Here is his take on the ISU's 2019 recruiting class and looking ahead to the 2019 season under Matt Campbell.

    Scoring Droughts

Agree about perimeter defense being lackluster. ISUs problem is not completely because of poor interior/post defense (which was the thesis of the latest Hines Column). This ISU team doesn’t have “defensive” erasers, but Jacobson and Lard have been pretty solid when they play near the rim. They...

    Scoring Droughts

I put this game on the ISU defense. It was similar in feel to vs. Texas or @Oklahoma, but the difference being we couldn't get the stops vs. TCU. PNR and transition defense was spotty. Also, credit to TCU who seemed to answer each time ISU went on any run. It just seemed be one of those days...

CFTV: Prohm on the loss to TCU

Agreed, effort was amazing from Lard. Only gripe is he got abused a few times too many in the 1-5 PNR- as did Wigginton. I imagine that is something they will really work on this next week of practice before KSU. Also, after rewatching the game it was clear how many close, missed ISU layups...

    Lasik vision correction

I just had surgery a few weeks ago and could not be more pleased. I was nearsighted and my correction power for distance was -1.25 (so not a lot), but for work & play contacts and glasses were not cutting it. My advice is take advantage of free consultations to shop around and get a feel for...

Just putting this out there for comment ...

Yes, yes, I know. Simply, I have no interest in sharing the conference title with any other team simply because I truly think ISU is the best team in the conference and best positioned at this point in the season to win it outright. Sharing the title would be slightly underachieving. If...

    Ok, so it's actually mid-season, let's try again ...

Unless KSU bottles up some offensive consistency, I could see them fading a bit too. If Wade keeps it up I could see him overtaking Brown on the all-conference team. If KSU does win the conference title, it probably means BOTH Brown and Wade are deserving of B12 all-conference, however.
