    NWS just posted a Winter Weather Advisory for the Des Moines metro for 3-5 inches of snow and downgraded the Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for south central and SE Iowa for 6-8 inches of snow. At this time, there are no advisories or warnings in effect for Ames to the north.

    Wednesday Feb 2 Road conditions

    I just got to work on the south side of Des Moines, I live on the north side of Ankeny and took Highway 69 all the way in and the roads are in great shape. Traffic on 35/80 & NE 14th Street seemed to be moving along just fine.

    Those on TV always go conservative this time of year so they don't start a wide spread panic and the "crying wolf" backlash if the storm doesn't play out. By underforecasting and we actually get more snow, they'll come back with "the storm was stronger than what we thought" card.
