Perceived talent shouldn't be a consideration when granting releases. Just my opnion. And yes, I do think it would be a **** move to not grant Cyler a release. From what little I know, it sounds to me like JP is willing to do it after the new coach gets a crack at talking to him. -

No. In wrestling that's what the release means. If he had to sit out a year regardless, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. -

He can't sit out next year and still have eligibility. That's the whole issue. If ISU doesn't release him he wrestles at ISU or no other D-1 school next year and his eligibility ends after next season. He wants to wrestle at PSU. Without a release, it's not going to happen. -

I don't think we have anything to be particularily disappointed about amongst the likely hirees. I do think if you look back on my posts that I've preferred Zeke among most of them from Day 1. -

I've been pushing for Jones from the start. I know people are concerned about his "loyalty" but this would be a job at/near the pinnacle of his profession. The USA Wrestling job is completely different from college coaching and it sounds to me like he's discovered it isn't what he thought it... -

He hasn't yet. Doesn't mean he won't. And I'm no Pollard plant. I've hinted at problems in the AD and he certainly wouldn't like me doing that. I'm just an ISU wrestling fan that has some contacts close to the search and decided it was a good time to finally start posting. -

Cyler isn't going anywhere until we have a new coach. That said, I think he wants to go to PSU with his brothers. He needs a release to compete there. I THINK he will get that release but I don't KNOW that he'll get it. I can't see us realeasing anyone use. Maybe recruits but no current... -

Being the lead dog isn't for everyone. However, from what it sounds like, he has no interest in direct competition with his brother. The strain it puts on the parents and on their families isn't worth a few thousand extra bucks. My take: Wrong time and wrong job. -

Hiring a head coach in college athletics is an odd process to say the least. There's a lot of back channel communication and "flirting." What you described is what happens in the business world but it isn't necessarily what happens with major college athletics. At least 2 men were given the... -

The Alton twins weren't coming to ISU if Cael stayed. Taylor will follow Cael. I've written him off. We can salvage Weatherman, but I think this hire is bigger than just a recruit or two. We have to get the right guy, long term. -

Only two, right? Bono and Jackson. Both have some pretty glaring holes on their resume neither are considered elite college wrestling coaches. Not yet, anyway. -

Iowa knew who they were hiring BEFORE they canned Zalesky and it still took them almost 2 full weeks to hire Brands, I believe. At this point, though I would like the search to be over with, I don't think we've reached the point where it is taking too long. Not yet, anyway. -
