    Gonzo gives a very good synopsis of realistic expectations for graphic designers. Work hard, have a good attitude (the client is ALWAYS right), and you'll be rewarded. It also helps to have a little talent. ;) Good luck and don't be discouraged. I've never regretted my career choice.

    Absolutely. Senior level graphic designers can earn in a range of 40 to 60k. Then it's off to Art Director status, with a range of 60k and up. After 23 years in the business, I'm in that "upper" range of the Art Director field.

    We start our entry level graphic designers in the 30-32k range. I work for a magazine publishing company located in Des Moines. Salaries start higher on the coasts in the same field, but not high enough to offset the standard of living, imho.
