    Housing market

YOUR loan for the house at THIS ADDRESS. This is why the mortgage explicitly says that you cannot transfer it. It is a losing proposition for lenders 100% of the time.

    Wideout Brett Eskildsen Commits!

On his (possibly no longer existing) podcast, Sage has mentioned a few times that having a burner opens the field up for everyone else, even if it’s just a dude who’s only skill is “fast,” because defenses have to respect it.

    Housing market

A bank has no incentive to let you keep a 4% loan right now.

    QR codes

It was happening for a while, but, as with remote work, Covid was a catalyst to widespread adoption. I worked on a web app for an Iowa bar in 2015 - idea was that since they had so many rotating taps, the app was always current, and could also help steer you towards what you liked.

Former Players Reveal Allegations of Toxic Culture Under P.J. Fleck

I read it to mean that they took the tests, but the (trivial) consequences for a first-time failure were ignored if you had a good balance of FleckCoin.

Gas price gouging in Ames during Ragbrai

Without getting this thread caved, and with the understanding that no one ever changed anyone else’s mind arguing on the internet… I respectfully disagree. There have been supply and demand issues, and issues caused by less-than-free market situations (see: shutting down the entire world and...

Gas price gouging in Ames during Ragbrai

Nah, OPEC definitely disproportionately affects supply. But I was talking specifically about gas prices in Ames. Demand goes up, prices go up, and gas stations compete to find the price that brings maximum profit. Assuming the owners aren’t colluding, of course…

Gas price gouging in Ames during Ragbrai

Take a look at oil futures; gas prices are about to get ugly, unrelated to RAGBRAI. Also - unpopular opinion alert - there’s no such thing as price gouging in a free market.

    Home Remodel Suggestions

While we admittedly have an absurd number of doors and drawers, we were quoted (if I remember correctly) almost 5 figures just to get ours refaced. Materials are expensive and labor is worse.

Which player on our roster do you think a vast majority are sleeping on?

That was always my complaint, but he started flashing some really nifty kick-outs during the last few weeks of the season last year.

Iowa City Pedestrian hit by car

I can’t find any stats behind this, but I suspect you’re wrong. but per the 2018 NSDUH, 70% of adults 18+ reported drinking in the last year, 53.3% in the last month. Also, if you think being uptight about alcohol is the reason for the DUI laws, you should compare the US BAC requirements to...

Iowa City Pedestrian hit by car

Yes and no. Insurance companies (and lawyers) will absolutely put a value on a life based on age and expected earnings. You don’t want to be over-insured, but you also want to have enough to shield your other assets. Consult a trusted professional (with E&O).

    Campbell Still in Demand?

The counter to this: why would a coach that can get to the playoffs in the Big 12 leave for a tougher/impossible path in another conference? I know, money and ego. But the choice is a lot less clear cut than it used to be when there’s a clear path to the playoffs.

Huggins might be in trouble, DUI is good, Bees are bad

It will be interesting to see how closely the body-cam footage aligns with the arrest report. I tend to be pro-cop, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time that an arrest report was maybe a little enthusiastic in its descriptions. It will also be interesting to see if the suggestion that...

    Never Saw That Coming...Basketball

It’s also nearly impossible to translate the coach-speak after so long, too. Both of us could be remembering correctly, just different stories being told at different times with different motivations. Hoiberg was a master at spinning the local press.

    Never Saw That Coming...Basketball

Yeah, but the expectation was certainly not that Melvin “Stone-Hands” Ejim would be a starter. I heard an interview years ago - I think it was CW and TJ, but it’s been a minute - where the coach said they recruited him thinking he would be develop into a nice 10mpg guy.
