    Turner Gill's current salary

I think this article implies that he is getting more than that... It didn't say what the incentives were. But really... why would you turn down a Chizik-sized contract? I'd guess Pollard will try to be as frugal as possible, but if he guarantees a ~300% pay increase - if he got the same money as...

    Turner Gill's current salary

I looked for a couple minutes, but this was all I could find. From a Jan. 16 Buffalo News Article: UB did not disclose the financial terms, but an athletic department source indicated that his annual salary will be $263,000, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Mid-American...

    Darks explains

Here is a story with Darius Darks in the Iowa State Daily. Here are the first two paragraphs: Former ISU football coach Gene Chizik held a team meeting after Thanksgiving break in which he told players "he wouldn't quit", ISU wide receiver Darius Darks said. "I'm more upset than most because...

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

Portion of Tim Griffin's Big 12 blog: " The biggest question will be who Pollard turns to replace Chizik. The hottest candidate is Buffalo coach Turner Gill, who obviously would be on the radar at Nebraska if he enjoys any kind of success with the Cyclones. Other potential candidates include...

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

Why would any recruit want to play for a school who will lose their coach every five years, even? Then the odds are that they will never finish their career with the same coach.

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

Good post Cymaster. A big hire might be needed to bail this program out in the short-term.

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

Our last romp severely may have infected our program with an STD - sudden treachory disorder.

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

No. I'm saying there are many coaches whose stock may not be high, but still may be great coaches. Where would Chizik be in two years if he had two bad seasons and got canned? Judging sex appeal isn't the way to find the best woman, in my opinion. Ya'll might disagree on that one.

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

To be honest with you, I have no clue how many viable candidates there are or who they are. I read what everyone else does and don't have much other insight. But an older coach, or just a coach that appreciates the intangibles of this job, is what I was alluding to. I'll say this: a...

Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

On some level, everyone expected Chizik to use the Iowa State job as a stepping stone. A new up-and-coming type coach would likely be aspire to an Auburn-type job. Turner Gill would undoubtedly love a shot at the Nebraska job if he got one. Should Pollard test his luck again?

    Rome picks Cyclones

Amen. Wrestling is Iowa State's most successful athletic program, but averages less than half of the fans of women's basketball. Our wrestlers are some of the best athletes in the country, regardless of their sport. True story: Tuesday afternoon, I saw Leonard Johnson, who wrestled in high...

    Wrestling preview

I wrote a preview of this weekend's Iowa, Iowa State wrestling dual for the Iowa State Daily. Here are a couple of the key quotes: “The rivalry is huge. I like to think it’s the biggest non-football, non-basketball rivalry in college sports,†said ISU head coach Cael Sanderson. “So we...

    Harold Nichols info

Update: Cael said at the press conference today Ward will wrestle this weekend. I'm about to run off to practice, but the gist of what Cael said was that Ward heard a pop, and they were worried so they took him out. Also, Duke Burk will wrestle on Friday, and Nick Gallick and Jake Varner...

    Harold Nichols info

The Harold Nichols Open is old news, but I haven't seen much discussion about it on here. Here are some of the main points: -Seven ISU starters won the tournament titles. Tyler Clark (125) and Nick Gallick (141) won for the first time. -Similar to wrestle-offs, Clark scored a takedown in the...

Wrestling - Harold Nichols open info

I don't have an official schedule, but past meets would indicate that the finals will stretch into the 6-7 p.m. range. Before the Gene Chizik show - I believe - Cael mentioned that the finals could conflict with the start of the football game.

    Crowd at first meet

Quotes from Cael after the match From the Iowa State Daily: “They had some pretty good defense in there; we just needed to have a little more attitude and find more ways to score points,â€￾ said Sanderson, who is entering his third season as head coach. “That’s what we talked about, as a...
