    Blum: The lost decade

Personally, I think it was more catching lightning in a bottle with Tinsley and Fizer. He sure didn't seem to be able to capitalize on those two great seasons...did he?

    Blum: The lost decade

The basketball talent and quality of play in CUSA this year is absolutely horrid. I watch a lot of MCBB and I have seen some CUSA games in person this year and they do not have one team in the league that deserves an NCAA bid...they will get their one automatic bid and that will be...

    Blum: The lost decade

This is quite the thread. A few items to note: + LE was fired for far more than just "drinking"...there was the elaborate deceit of it all (fear of flying), not to mention the lecherous behavior with girls half his age (with pics to boot). His activities were a national embarrassment for...

    Blum: The lost decade

"The Cyclones haven’t participated in a postseason event of any kind since the 2005 loss to North Carolina in the NCAA tournament. No NCAA. No NIT. Not even the CBI. In fact, Iowa State is the only team in a BCS conference who hasn’t played in a postseason event in that time-span. For...

Just a possibility I hadn't really considered before

Amen to the emboldened part above! If we want to try and build a Big 12 program with 4-5 year kids like it was done back in the 70s and 80s, well, we might as well only recruit kids that are tatoo free while we are at it...just like back in the 70s and 80s. :jimlad: Some things...

Alabama fax cam girls for NSD

Once again, Saban on the cutting edge. You gotta do whatever you can to get an edge. And having been on campus at Alabama I can assure you that this is a selling point of the university.

    Izzo vs. Hoiberg

You wouldn't think so but things have never been the same at Florida since Donovan almost went to Orlando (well, in that case he actually did go and then came back). At any rate, I can assure you that competitive recruiters try to use anything they can against another school...like a coach...

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

Yeah...only been to 6 of the last 12 Final Fours...if that is a "trainwreck" then I would like to see how you define the McDermott era at ISU?

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

Anyone with any common sense knew that as old as WJ was if he had a decent season he would be gone to the pros.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

Unfortunately, the kind of talent we need to compete in our conference is the kind of talent that does not stay in school for 4 years. We need to recruit more guys that will only be around 1 or 2 years...not less. You gotta have the horses, man!!

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

I wonder if the Syracuse boards got all bent out of shape about this with respect to Wesley Johnson?

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

Show me the list of the programs from the power conferences in the Top 25 that have rosters that are built with, and dominated by, a bunch of 4 year players. If you want to truly compete in a power conference and be in the national discussion you need to have more talented guys than you...

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

You, apparently, are not aware of your ISU MBB history. We have a long line of guys that have been key contributors to our program that fall into the "misfit" and "second chance" categories you are bemoaning... Elmer Robinson, Tom Schafer, Dedric Willoughby, Kelvin Cato, Kenny Pratt, Jamaal...

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Former MSU G Korie Lucious to visit this weekend

LOL. Firstly, our team needs more legitimate Big 12 caliber starters...NOT more reserves. Secondly, the vast majority of teams use a 7 to 10 man rotation in MBB...frankly, it is typical that half the team is there for game action (7 or 8 guys) and the other half is there so you can practice...

    Noteable stats

What would you expect? Seriously? The bottom line is that we have scheduled very weak non-conference schedules over the past several years and the Big 12 is a very tough conference. I, for one, hope we move towards a more challenging non-conference schedule as our program begins to rise...

Talk about a board with its high's and low's

So what! I want to play to win...not to keep it to a "close" loss. The fast paced style of play will work just fine once our overall talent is upgraded. McDermott's total misunderstanding of the talent required to compete in a power conference is nearly unfathomable...even now. Good riddance.

Why do we think the transfers are the answer?

I was skeptical of the Hoiberg hire at the time it was made. Since then, he has won me over, in part, with his clear understanding that we needed a huge talent infusion into our program and we needed it right now if we were going to have any chance to compete in the Big 12 ASAP. The reason...

    Elgin Cook: Our Forgotten Recruit

What do you mean by this? My personal opinion is that if we are recruiting guys that need to be redshirted we are recruiting the wrong guys. Just look at the top teams in the power conferences year in and year out and you will see that they are not loaded with guys that have been redshirted...

    You may not like this

Ahhh....the old overachieve / underachieve debate. Clearly, there is a significant portion of Cyclone fans that prefer an overachieving team...even if it means the overachieving team is losing. I did several polls last year where I gave two choices...an "overachieving" GM team with a losing...

    Last Win in Stillwater 3/2/1988

Yep...the old Big 8 MBB Conference was tough back then.
