Colbray has been a major disappointment so far, BUT there have been guys who looked awful as 2nd year freshman and became pretty good. Michael Moreno is an extreme example, remember his 4-17 RS frosh season?

***Rider Dual in Stephens 2:00PM on Sunday***

What I was trying to say or what I thought I said was that just 2 years ago we were beating those 'barely D1 schools' and beating the likes of UNI, Central Michigan and Wyoming and beating #4 Virginia Tech at the Virginia Duals and only losing to powerhouses (4 of 6 losses were to top 7 teams)...

***Rider Dual in Stephens 2:00PM on Sunday***

Its still hard for me to wrap my head around how far we have fallen so fast. Just 2 years ago we finished in the top 15 for a 4th straight year, were 10-6 in duals wrestling a brutal schedule and even 11-2 in duals the year before that. Also kind of strange to think now how during that same 4...

    Lindenwood Open

Not sure if they've actually seeded the tourney 1-8, but from the brackets it looks like our seeds are: Parker 2, Simmons 5, Dante 5, Degen 8, Straw 4, DiBlasi 5, Brightenbach 6, Pestano 2, Colbray 5, Harrington 3, Gremmel 5 in Gold (Open) division. Like Cyclone Open not a lot of D1 individuals...

    Drexel review

Drexel a top 25 team last year? No, they tied for 53rd. Wrestlestat has them ranked 59th out of 77 D1 dual teams. They are most likely the weakest team we will see in a dual this year. The crowd and energy was great, the aggressiveness was good for the most part, but the overall result was piss...

    Drexel review

I like to see all of the positive comments, but that was bad! Historically bad considering Drexel is easliy in the bottom 25-30% of all Division 1 teams. I can only think of a few dual losses ever this bad...West Virginia last year and 2012 when we lost to Boston U and Army on the same day...

The brackets are out! The brackets are out!!

I like the optimism but, I don't know, Clark looked really healthy in Big 10 final. He was physically right with Tomasello for 7 minutes.

    At Larges

Colbray applied for a medical redshirt so, yes, he was injured. When you say Campbell I assume you mean Boston and no Simmons or Boston would not have been better options at 133. Not even close!

Also in 2002 we didn't compete in the Worlds.

    Post Mortem

Yeah I see a bit of a decline but the # of weight classes went from 10 up until 1996 to 8 (1997-2001) to 7 (2002-2013) and back to 8 (2014-2016). The math would be more accurate if you calculated medals per opportunity. Also consider in the 8 years since he left USA Wrestling we've won 16 medals...

Downey has been kicked off ISU wrestling team

Jason Bryant is a long time wrestling writer/blogger/announcer. You can see a lot of his stuff on theopenmat.com. He has also been doing PA at the NCAAs since they canned Sandy Stevens.

Downey has been kicked off ISU wrestling team

I actually think he did what his coaches wanted him/told him to do...Up until about a month ago, then he obviously he didn't, and he was kicked off the team. I hope its true that he's close to graduating and gets that done. We'll probably see him in MMA and/or some Senior level freestyle, but...

Sammy Colbray Will Apply for Medical Redshirt

Should be ok'd. Kaid Brock of OkSt had similar situation last year and was granted by NCAA.

Where is a P5 Wrestling Program Needed?

A lot of these schools mentioned had wrestling and dropped it, Clemson, UCLA, LSU, Syracuse, Washington, Kansas State. Would be great to see some of them come back like Fresno State did.

image from Minnesota vs ISU Wrestling meet

Come on, that's a lame comment! Jackson had his share of success stories here. By popular opinion and his own admission, he didn't meet overall expectations. Let's leave it at that, no need to beat a dead horse.
