    A new tobacco free generation

My wife died of lung cancer 6 months ago this week. We both smoked as freshmen as we started college and tried so many times to quit. I was finally successful but she never was. The worst part was it was small cell cancer and had spread to her bones, liver, and abdomen before she had any...

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

I still get their Seasons magazine in the mail. I think it's four times a year. It's not that beneficial to me.

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

I got an email from "Hy-Vee Financial Services" today. Powered by Midwest Heritage, they are getting into mortgages, auto loans, home and auto insurance, per insurance, and Medicare advising. Talk about expanding beyond the core business!

Friday OT #2 - Pandemic Purchases

I finished my office in the basement. For the first time, it's warm in the winter. Following my wife's death in August, I traded her car and my car for a new one and when my contract ended in November, I decided I'd had enough of IT and have retired. I am planning to do volunteer work next.

On That Note: Your Song(s) ’21

This song that came out this year, has such a catchy tune and drum beat, I can listen to it over an over again. (Strange video.) I first heard this song this year, though it's from 2010. I love the voice of Leon Russell and again, a real catchy tune.

*** Official #19 IOWA STATE vs Creighton Game(Day) Thread ***

I was there too with my wife and daughter, then a Creighton student. The language out of my daughter leaving that game shocked me. My daughter and I are going tonight.

Wednesday OT #2 - Your Dirge

There were a number of the Catholic usuals that my wife wanted in her funeral. The visitation background music was more relaxed. A mixture of country and pop songs that had special meaning to her. My favorite was "Old and Wise" by Alan Parsons Project.

Friday OT #1: Whatcha Gonna Do?

My wife passed away this August - way too young with cancer that progressed way too fast. She was cremated because she "didn't want bugs in the casket" even though we explained this won't happen. She had an open casket visitation and then the casket was closed right before the funeral. She...
