Didn't Houston Nutt do the same salary bump thing to Arkansas when Nebraska was trying for him after they fired Solich? I got a good laugh out of this story.
"cycloneworld writes: Are we going to have to deal with the Kirk Ferentz-like "who is going to hire Paul Rhoads this year?" every year going forward?CW: Probably, but that's a good thing. Nobody wants to hire your coach if you suck.
Wait for it...Wait for it......."
Good sarcasm, I must say...
That's serious coin, even for SEC schools. This from the guys who put an interim coach in on the cheap after firing their coach for lying (and other assorted things), and they wondered why they had a losing season...
I think giving Stoops a chance at UK is a good move. Most of the SEC is built on defense, because that can even up games between the lower tier schools and the powers. Good defensive schools are winners in the long term. That's certainly what CPR is trying to do for us...
Kentucky will find someone that will take the job for the right amount of money. Why not swing for the fences first? So what if a few name guys turn you down? If they're offering low-ball money to top tier coaches, they're going to get quite a few rejections.
ND ran the table and will get their shot against one of the SEC teams. I may root for them to end the SEC's run of titles, but if Alabama or GA pounded them it wouldn't break my heart. Kelly seems like a good coach, much better than the man he replaced, but are they good enough for one game to...
I imagine that he took the first installment of his $7.5 million in trade for a large cache of his commemorative coins and will spend the next several weeks polishing each one to his high standards while watching highlights of his best coaching moments.
I find myself strangely torn today. Should I feel happy that the Chiz got canned from his "dream job" for having the worst year in the SEC in Auburn history or angry because he makes $7.5 million to do nothing but make a good-faith effort to search for another job over 3 years?
National Championship buys you some bad seasons, but not historically bad seasons plus NCAA investigations. He wins a couple of SEC games and makes a minor bowl he's probably back, but 0-8 in SEC for Auburn is a first that can't be overlooked.
I don't care which bowl we get and I'm not rooting for Texas tonight. We need to take care of our own business tomorrow and things will go our way. Go State!
