United Center isn't in the Ghetto. I live in Bucktown and have no problem walking to bulls and blackhawks games. Best way to get to the UC is bus. Ashland or Madison bus routes.

Personally, I prefer the NBA over college. I like college bball but pro games are more fun to attend than college games and the quality of play is better.
Proximity to friends and family so they can attend games plays a role too. It is a lot easier for a family from Ohio, Philly, New Jersey, etc.. to see a game in Pittsburgh than it is in Ames, IA.
Pitt is a good school with decent history.
He took ISU to 4 NCAA tourneys in 5 years going 4-3, won 2 conference tournament titles, and the team was ranked in the top 25 when he left.
