Yeah, I'm waiting to see how this is all the B12's fault:
SEC poaches Arkansas from the SWC
Texas and A&M work with the B8 to make the B12, Tech and Baylor come along for the ride (after Baylor shivs TCU at the last minute to take their place).
Texas, A&M and Nebraska all work together to block...
One of my friends wrote "Danger" in for his middle name on the cards they (used to?) use to read off names during graduation at ISU on a bet. My gf at the time was graduating, so I happened to be there. I remember thinking "I don't think..."
I don't think there's enough left of the PAC to backfill with MWC/AAC schools. There aren't enough AAC schools with enough value, and the MWC's buyout is too high for 2024. Also, the PAC remainders have no buyout because they have no media deal.
The name's fate will be decided between...
There's no chatter about this right now because each new media deal has been much richer than the last. The B10 is going from ~$60M to about $80M when the new deal kicks in, and the CFP goes back out to market in a few years that might push them towards $100M. It's easy to be happy when your...
The only way anyone gets out of the ACC in the next 10 years is if they find a way to legally invalidate the GOR and media deal, but that seems highly, highly unlikely. I can't see the courts agreeing with a novel legal theory that lets a school out of this contract and GOR, but also doesn't...
I'm not 100% on that. I think MD and Rutgers took a partial share for a set number of years and the B10 paid their ACC buyout. Nebraska may have been in a similar situation.
IMO, it's a little different when it's the new guy taking a partial share for a bit vs a systematic tiering system...
Unequal revenue suggestions are a harbinger of doom for a conference, and has yet to work.
The B12 gave it a try and the result was everyone who was receiving more bolted anyway.
It seemed like it might be the trick to keeping the PAC together, but it doesn't look like even that will work...
This is getting interesting. If reports that Fox asked the B12 to stop at 14 were true, is it because they didn't want to kick in their portion for 2 more schools after that? Because the B10 expanding by 2 or 4 is going to cost them a whole hell of a lot more. Are they going to decline to go...
Add to that, the B12 and OUT came to an agreement after the B12 expanded and after they signed their new media deal. The B12 was on solid ground with it's future assured when it made the agreement.
Comparatively, the ACC agreeing to sell of rights would have the opposite effect on the...
Agreed, anything that opens up the GOR is unlikely to pass. It would need 8 schools voting in favor, and there's just too many questions about who goes where. It seems unlikely the B10 and SEC would be taking 8 between the two of them, so some B12-bound schools would have to get on board...
The PAC is going to have to give SDSU (or any other MWC team) close to $14M/ if they're going to be in the PAC for 2024, and that's if the MWC can spread out their buyout over 5 years.
I really think GK holding out on presenting offers may have kept the 10 members together longer, but delaying...
MWC schools make about $6.5M in the MWC. Getting $10M in the PAC for 5 years is going backwards with that buyout. I doubt any are in the PAC for 2024 under $14M per year. AAC schools are cheaper for 2024 (lower buyout) but more travel and probably have less media value in general.
Yeah, the PAC stepping in to pay some or all of it looks decidedly unrealistic. I don't think the conference has the money for one buyout, much less multiple (if they want to go to 12 or need to backfill more than 1 to get to 10).
What is SDSU's status with the MWC? Last I heard, the MWC said SDSU's request to extend the notice deadline to the end of July was considered notice they were leaving, but SDSU said it wasn't. Did the MWC take SDSU back? Or is it sort of in limbo so both sides can claim whatever is advantageous...
Agree, the Buffs don't move the needle much on their own. However, it's one more spin on the PAC's death spiral. No deal and bad offers = Buffs move. No deal and worse deal = AZ moves. Still no deal and worse offers = OR/WA/ASU/UT have a tougher time resisting.
