Random Thoughts 18: The Year of Fire

You're making me very nervous about the flight I have tomorrow. We've been screwed so many times that we now fly to Houston the night before, just to be safe.

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

About 77k people a year in the U.S. spend over $100k on a car every year. Also, they no longer cost this much(The Model S). I've never personally spent over $52k on a car and that was painful to do. I would have to have a net worth north of 10 million to justify a $100k vehicle and I doubt I...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

Like a car with a motor, the majority run fine after 3-4 years. Where are you getting "When it's even closer to needing a new battery"? Do you say this when you buy a used car with a gasoline motor?

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

Does insurance cover a battery replacement after so many years? Just like the motor in your car, if it was in an accident. If you trade in or sell your EV after 6-7 years, what do you do about the battery? Just like the motor in your car, you probably leave it in the car. Do you sell the car a...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

Sorry if I've already showed these, but here is another graph. The Tesla Supercharger in OP was an instance of me thinking I was going to charge there without listening to the software. Then realizing "You're being stupid" and unplugging....so 1 kwh. Walnut Street was probably a free hotel...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

I have to admit that it felt a little strange this fall when I brought all of these batteries into the basement, to keep them warm.

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

4690 Miles on the tesla. I've been told that degradation is high in the beginning, not sure how accurate. It wasn't connected for a little over 1,000 miles but it looks like 13 charging cycles for 3,446 miles?

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

You're right, it sounds like a standard gas or diesel engine vehicle would be best for you. Like it's been said numerous time, everyone has a different use case. If 300k mile reliability is the most important thing to you, there would be little reason to buy anything other than something like a...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

Like you and others have said, it's hard to get a good feel when you see differences in these 3 articles, which are from trusted resources. Basically anywhere from 100k to 600k miles

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

Lets also put this into perspective. If you drive 12k miles/year, it will take you 25 years to reach 300k miles. So if you were to buy a new 2024 Camry, you're looking at 2049.

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

I also think EV's are currently a lot more scrunitezed than other vehicles. For example, the youtube video of the people having to replace their battery because they hit something on the road. Terrible situation but how many times do you hear about a car running over something on the interstate...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

I dumbed it because I felt like this was a dumb question to ask. "How many battery packs does a EV go through in its life" It's the same as asking how many engines does a car go through in it's life. What's a "life"? If I lose 30 miles of range over 100k miles, do you think the battery needs...

When do you think you will buy a 100% pure electric vehicle?

I've been using software to do just that. It really depends a lot on how much you charge at home and what your energy costs are. 95% of the time I'm charging at home and it costs me 11 cents per KwH. This equates to $3.56 per 100 miles. So 12k miles per year would cost me $427.20. If I drive my...
