Downey reminds me a lot of the Frost brothers. Not highly ranked recruits, but tough kids that work hard, have great technique, and are great additions to any room
I don’t think the final result changes much even if Iowa didn’t have the gambling issues and landed Ferrari. I’d still take Truax over Assad, Brooks over Ferrari, and Kerk over Cass. If anything, Iowa got lucky Penn state lost SVN for the year and were forced to wrestle their backup freshman at 149
Not Schwab's style at all to duck, but if Happel is banged up and unable to go Sunday, he does already have a W over Ech for seeding purposes going into Big 12s. If he is injured, might make sense to get healthy instead of facing Ech
Meanwhile, Penn State has 7 guys ranked inside the top 5 including 5 guys ranked 1st at their weight. The current lowest ranked kid for Penn State is Tyler Kasak at 149 who is ranked 12th (and is only in the lineup because SVN tore his ACL when he was ranked 2nd). They have a legitimate shot to...
Updated Flo rankings:
125: 21st
133: 8th
141: 9th
149: 7th
157: 9th
165: 2nd
174: 23rd
184: 6th
197: NR
Hwt: 3rd
Team Tournament: 5th
Having 7 guys ranked in the top 10 is pretty damn fun
Pretty crazy that 3 of the top 5 teams right now (dual wise) are from the Big 12- okie state 3rd, Iowa state 4th, Mizzou 5th. For as much as big 10 fans like to trash our conference, it’s getting better. Adding ASU will help as well
Hwt would have a chance to AA as well as he is ranked 9th. I would have the following:
Locks to AA: 133, 184
Very good chance to AA: 165
AA contender: 125, 141, Hwt
Unlikely: 149, 157, 174, 197
Also, hell of a coaching job by John Smith this year. I am sure bringing in Coleman Scott helped turn it around too, but they are much better than I anticipated
Mizzou appears to be heading the wrong direction coming off a loss to Cornell and getting dominated by Okie State. I like our chances in a couple weeks
Grades:
125: B+. I thought Kysen was aggressive most of the match and was in deep a couple of times. The WVU kid is going to be an NCAA qualifier and will get better as he improves his gas tank, but it was good to see Kysen stay after it and get the W. He still struggles finishing on longer...
