    Maybe if you do a lot of driving exclusively in the city (say as a delivery driver) a hybrid would make financial sense. Otherwise the only way you'll come out ahead financially with a hybrid is if the price of gas skyrockets. The problem with diesel vehicles is there aren't a lot of options...

    No doubt back roads are faster for some trips. I drive between Johnston and Sioux City several times a year, and I'll take the back roads if I'm not in a hurry. Between the lower speed and the shorter distance, I save a lot of gas on the back roads, but it's also 20-30 minutes longer.

    That seems unnecessary to me. I drive I-80 in the western half of the state a few times a year, and the traffic is rarely that bad (unless there's construction).

    Half.com is like eBay or any other site where you deal with individual sellers. Most sellers are pretty good, but sometimes you'll run into some bad ones. I've been happy using half.com before, but I wouldn't trust it if I had to have a book fast.
