    What Type of Health Care?

I agree with you on that. People in the ER are usually either 1.) literally dying or 2.) using it as a subsitute for their [lack of] primary care doc....it's a mess.

Health Care - What would you do?

    That's insurance fraud.

Health Care - What would you do?

This is true. Part of the billing system (for an outpatient visit), is based on exam time. When the doc is physically looking at you-- listening to your heart, looking at that ear wax, whatever. But part of the charge is based on the time the doc spend "counseling" you. Whether it's on how...

Health Care - What would you do?

Between 2003 and 2004, Dade County in Florida, which includes the city of Miami, went from $249,000 to $277,000, an increase of about 11 percent. In that same period, Cook County in Illinois, which includes Chicago , jumped about 67 percent from $138,000 to more than $230,000. Wayne County in...

    Motorcycle Helmets and Kids

You might want to read the fine print on your contract. Unless you have purchases a separate rider on your insurance; most life insurances policies won't pay out benefits if you die ski-diving, bungee jumping, or other things deemed "dangerous" by the company.

Health Care - What would you do?

And they could very well be in debt up to their eye balls, trying to keep up with the Jones. Everyone thinks docs make a boatload of cash. Yeah, maybe a neuro-surgeon. But your average clinic based pediatrican or family practice doc makes no where near what you think.

Health Care - What would you do?

Not true. Any of the for-profit hospitals can turn you away. Legally, they don't have to do anything. Ethically, it's a whole different story.... The only hospital in DM that can't turn anyone away is Broadlawns. They are the county hospital.

    GM hit by UAW strike

To my knowledge there are not any nurse unions in Iowa. Not in the DM metro anyways. If you can find me a nursing job paying $35/hr in the DM metro area that is not at the Mitchelleville prison, let me know, k?

    Obama and Social Security

I do agree with you on this. I don't think huge salary = hard job/ more stress. Necessarily. Some people get paid ridiculous amounts of $ for jobs that aren't very stressful at all. But then some people have to put up w/ BS all day long from a psycho boss who knows less than them, but makes...

    Obama and Social Security

They aren't stupid. But I just get irritated by teachers whining about how hard they have it and how their pay stinks. Well guess what? So does the pay of a nurse. I am stupid for being a nurse? Maybe. Hospitals don't close at 5pm. They don't close on weekends, or holidays, or ALL SUMMER...

    Obama and Social Security

I never teachers work only 40 hrs/ week. They are far from the only profession that brings work home with them, or work overtime w/o compensation.

State of Iowa - New Alcoholic Beverage?

OMG! This is Brian's favorite beer. He used to have to go to Omaha to get it. They just started selling it in Iowa within the last few weeks. And I finally found it at Dahl's in Ankeny today.
