I'm interested in donating to keep specific players that have other offers. I'm not interested in donating to a pool of money where people I don't know will make decisions on who it goes to and the very player that receives it can leave right after for a rival school.
The other thing I'd add is escalating payments like:
The We Will Collective will pay you $500,000 with a pay structure like this
Year 1 = $25,000
Year 2 = $50,000
Year 3 = $100,000
Year 4 = $325,000 (if you haven't signed any other NIL deals)
SCENARIO ONE - something I’m not interested in donating to/for
MBB Player A gets $50,000 from We Will Collective for speaking to Boys and Girls Club of Ames on March 1.
Player A leaves for Kansas on April 1 for $500,000.
SCENARIO TWO - something I’d be interested in donating to/for:
Player A...
This isn't as fun to talk about but is a reality is style of play. You can win playing TJ's style. You can win with less talent playing TJ's style. Howvever, it is not necessarily a FUN way to play and somebody(agents) got in Tyrese's ear about this style not translating to the NBA.
This is not indictment on Tyrese Hunter or his character. If it comes out that he's getting a bunch of money to go somewhere else, good for him. We would have all done that as an 18/19 year old.
You can call it an indictment of the current NCAA system but that's not really going to get you...
The fact that this rumor is near 24 hours old and NOBODY (besides a student reporter) has publicly refuted it means he's gone. This won't be the last time either. Expect our incoming FR to get blue blood offers if they earn Big XII FR of the year as well. It's happening. Focus now has to be on...
Much less risk by recruiting D1 transfers rather than HS kids because they’re a lot less likely to transfer because they would have to sit out. This is a HR for UNC (if true) because he’s really good but I don’t think he’s leaving after SOPH year for sure.
I said I would pay $500 if it meant he'd stay. There is a big difference. But like my disclaimer...this would open up a bunch of other things. Other guys bluffing about leaving to get money...jealousy, payment and then they leave anyways. It really sucks. But it isn't going anywhere.
I have never seen one realistic way for student-athletes to become employees (where the money comes directly from the school) AND be in compliant of Title IX. It’s literally not feasible.
I would pay $500 right now via Venmo if guaranteed Hunter would play at Iowa State next year and I’m not rich by any means. I’m guessing we could could find $750,000 in just a few days. However, that in and of itself, opens up a whole new can of worms.
Unless EVERY one of these NIL deals is “new” money that would have never been available/donated to the school then the fundraising efforts have to be getting harder for NCC, I-Club, whatever your school has.
Blaming the system doesn’t help Iowa St win games next year. Make a pitch for him to stay. Try and get some money together. if that doesn’t work you have to move on and try to pay other good players to come here.
If this were 5 years ago Tyrese Hunter probably goes to the NBA to try and get some money. It would have been a huge risk because 2nd round $ isn’t guaranteed but I’m guessing he tries.
The new NIL system sucks for Iowa State in this scenario but at least he gets some real money guaranteed. I...
