Texas game is on the Longhorn Network

IIRC it was a concession Jamie made to UT to demonstrate our willingness to be a good conference partner. So, a lot of good that did...

Here comes the doomsday thread, sorry

I see there's a report out today that Pettiti wants to expand the playoffs to 14 or 16 with some guaranteed Big 10 and SEC spots (as well as some, but likely fewer) guaranteed Big 12 and ACC spots. That's probably the most lucrative solution. A playoff that's mostly Big 10 and SEC schools, but...

This is where I think it's really heading. They'll set up playoff and basketball tourney payouts to be based off the number of games your conference plays. With the SEC and Big 10 getting the lion's share of the spots, they'll get the bulk of that revenue. By letting the Big 12 and ACC...

What music are you listening to right now?

I always put it on when I’m at the Tip Top before a game. Along with “Just A Friend” by Biz Markie, “Like A Prayer” by Madonna, “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys, and “Drop Em Out” by Wheeler Walker Jr.

100%. They’ll still get good ratings, but they won’t get the ratings they have now and they damn sure won’t grow the product.

They’re going to get the lion’s share of the playoff revenue by virtue of having more teams in. Giving the Big 12 and ACC one guaranteed spot each will be enough to keep those fans invested. Which is where we’re at. The Big 10 and SEC are already on their own tier financially. They get most...

If what you’re saying was true, the minor professional leagues would have all thrived.

They have great ratings largely due to their large fanbases as a result of being located in populous states. They absolutely lucked into their position. Demographics are the biggest reason the Big 12 is behind them. People in charge of college athletics have routinely demonstrated extreme...

Here comes the doomsday thread, sorry

People don’t watch college football to see a superior product though. That’s the fundamental error in their thinking. People who want to watch the game played at the highest level have the NFL, and the SEC and Big 10 are never going to offer that level of quality. Period. People watch...

So, explain this. They currently get Iowa State eyeballs and don’t have to share a penny with Iowa State. How does telling a school like Iowa State that they can never go to the playoffs net them more cash? That’s the part I can’t figure out. They don’t share any money with us now.

Do you really think ISU fans will just become Iowa or Nebraska fans? Or OK State fans will become OU fans? Or TTU fans will become Texas fans? The XFL just rakes in cash. That is not happening. Those people are punching out of a Big 10/SEC division completely.

But all of that has happened without the intentional disenfranchisement of millions of fans. I’m talking about those leagues saying “we’re having our own party and none of you can come”. That move would 100% lower ratings and revenue.

“What do they have to gain by breaking off?” is my question. Because they won’t gain money.

If the SEC and Big 10 go off to have their own division and playoffs without the ACC and Big 12, they will see their ratings decrease.

The only guy they put ahead of Brock that I'd take issue with is Dak. And Dak is more talented, he just always crashes in the playoffs.

    Friday OT: Rooster or Owl

Been a morning person my whole life. Any more my schedule is basically 4AM to 8PM when I'm not in the field and don't have another obligation. On the weekends it might be 10PM to 6AM on Saturday night into Sunday, unless there's some particular event that runs later.
