    Camera advice needed

You aren't. And you're not going to even begin to touch a decent action shot indoors from that distance for anything less than, I'd say, around 2k, in the SLR world. Outdoors, in daylight, it's a different story. The glass doesn't need to be nearly as fast, and high ISO is less of a concern...

    Camera advice needed

The F/4 IS might do alright for some stuff, especially if you put it on a good body that has decent high ISO, but you're right. And an 85 is going to mean that you're going to need to do some lens swapping for general purpose photography, which means carting around extra lenses and whatnot...

Nice lens is going to run at least another 500 (for bball, you're talking probably 1000+ for a 70-200 F/4 IS or F/2.8), though...so now you're in 1100 territory, and that's only going to work for some of your pictures.

And this is why something like the Powershot G11 (sorry I said G10 earlier..the G11 is it's successor) would be a pretty good choice. It's built well (i.e. can handle some abuse), has good optics, a great sensor, and you can use it in "Green box" mode (point and shoot) without having to learn...

That 55-250 is going to be useless indoors without a (big) flash.

    Camera advice needed

The problem is, buying an SLR with a kit lens isn't going to get you significantly better low light performance (and zoom) than a good point and shoot, and it's a lot bigger pain to carry around. Plus they are more expensive.

    Summer Beer Thread

    Shandy isn't technically a beer, it's a mixed drink. :)

    Camera advice needed

Good sports photography, especially indoors, is generally speaking a very expensive proposition. 500 bucks probably wouldn't even get you a reasonable lens for doing so, let alone a body, if you went the SLR route. The powershot G10 is around that price range and would be a reasonable camera...

    Exercise Question

Ok. Here's my 20 second schpiel. If you're trying to lose weight, the ONLY thing that really, truly matters is diet. Period. You can work out if you want, to help create a calorie deficit, but the only thing that's going to help you lose weight is diet. And biking 9 miles a day probably isn't...

I'm sorry, but I still can't watch soccer

Hey it's not for everyone. I'm not religious about it, but I do enjoy it. Just multiply goals by 7 and compare it to American football. There's a LOT of downtime in football. A LOT. If someone wasn't familiar with the rules, they might think it's a really really slow game (and most outside of...

    Memorial Weekend Beer Thread

Wasatch brewing has some decent beers. And you can get good beer in the airport for some reason :D Utah does suck badly for boozing, though. You have my condolences.

That too. And donuts. It's amazing how many morbidly obese people there are down here. Fattest state in the US! Um, no. 2.4 for bud select 55. The problem is that alcohol = carbs = calories. The more you cut the calories, the more you have to cut the alcohol. Honestly, though, a 55...

    Memorial Weekend Beer Thread

I'm stuck in beer purgatory here in Mississippi. Best thing I've found so far is Pick Axe Ale from Tommyknocker. Aside from that, it's just a lot of meh down here. I was really hoping to find some nice, subtle local beers. Apparently, in Mississippi's opinion, that is Coors light. BBQ, on the...

has anyone tried the contour ab belt

More or less! Those guys don't get in shape on those machines. They are in shape before they get on them, and then they collect their checks and go home and eat their crazy healthy diets and work out all day to stay in shape, and I can almost guarantee they don't use or maybe even have one...

has anyone tried the contour ab belt

Ab machines are completely worthless. They are one of the biggest lies in all of the fitness industry. You need NO equipment to get a solid ab workout. No matter HOW much you exercise your abs, though, you're never going to get a 6 pack unless you lose fat (and probably a LOT of it), and you...

    P90X/workingout advice

The intense workout guy is pretty blunt about it, and any dietitian will generally tell you, you lose weight by burning more calories than you consume. It doesn't matter if the calories are fat, carbs or protein, a calorie is (mostly) a calorie. It's really, really simple. It's just not easy...

    P90X/workingout advice

h Coming from someone who has dropped 45 lbs or so in the last 9 months, the major key is diet. I'd say it's at least 80 percent of losing weight, maybe more. The advice on this site is pretty much spot-on Intense Workout - weightlifting, bodybuilding, weight loss, weight gain, routines . I...

    Worst/Crappiest beer you've ever had

Camo was pretty bad. Beer 30 is rough. Sunset Wheat is pretty terrible, too, though I don't get too worked up about flavored beers, since they are really more mixed drinks than they are beer. I've never had a Gluek, but I hear consistently terrible things about all the beers from them...

    Twitter clients/sites

Tweed on my phone lets me do that, but its' not really available for PCs. tweetdeck lets you mark tweets as "seen" and then you can clear all the seen tweets from a column. Kinda the same thing.

    A turn in events..

I think I technically said, put your heart in a box and move on. What I failed to follow that up with is after that, put your dollars in a naked slut's g-string, while throwing back 8 dollar beers and maybe spend some time with the couch in the back room with some random naked girl with a stage...
