    Obesity

BMI was designed to measure large populations, not individuals. The fact that it's being used to measure individuals is a lazy way of seeing where you fit in that population statistic, not necessarily a measure of health. One of the biggest problems with BMI is that it makes simplistic...

    Obesity

Just checked out your blog. What you have done is truly amazing and inspirational! Keep it up bud! I know those plateaus are frustrating, but the long term effects of what you are doing are so worth it! It could also be that you're in that magical "fat to muscle" zone which happens from time to...

    Obesity

Working out can be relaxing. I find it relaxing. Obesity and depression are actually fairly strongly linked as well. And all of this ignores the simple fact that working out won't keep you from becoming obese. Diet will keep you from becoming obese. Exercise helps, but people get fat...

    Obesity

Box of hy-vee mac and cheese .59. Butter+milk to make it, maybe another .25. A whole box would certainly fill someone up. Maybe not even a whole box. Throw in a heavily salted can or two of veggies and you've got a meal or two. Or you could have like 10 packages of ramen. A whole...

    Obesity

I'd wager that, clinically speaking, if you see someone that is 40 lbs "overweight", they are obese (I'm not talking about the outlier body builders who don't look overweight, but would certainly be so just comparing height/weight). All those studies that detail the health pitfalls of obesity...

    Your opinion on the BCS...

    1. With a round robin football schedule, and ISU guaranteed to play Texas and Oklahoma every year, if we go undefeated, we will be in the top 2, almost guaranteed. Especially considering that we will now have the Big 10's advantage of not having to play a championship game. If we went undefeated...

    Obesity

Well water is technically free, for the most part. The point is that soda tastes good, and is cheap enough to not be prohibitively expensive for most people. If water is a Toyota Yarus, soda is an Escalade that costs 1k more. 3.17 per person for a family of 4 is almost 13 bucks a meal. If...

    Obesity

There is a definite correlation between wealth and obesity. The poorest states also tend to be the fattest. Walk around the supermarket sometime and see what the cheapest things to eat are. Mac and cheese will feed a couple of people for a 1.50 or so. Hot dogs can be found for a dollar or two...

    Obesity

You think Iowa is bad, go down south. I spent the better part of two months in Mississippi earlier this year. Overweight and better (i.e. Normal sized people) are in the distinct minority. The majority of people are obese to morbidly obese. One look at a restaurant menu will tell you exactly...

    The Phantom 100-mph Fastball

I was sitting 5 rows behind home plate and off to the left side just far enough to be out of the way of the screen while some minor league guy in C-Springs was throwing 100+. He threw 5 pitches and 3 of them were over 100. It's pretty damn scary just being behind home plate. Can't imagine trying...

Grain Belt Premium medals at 2010 U.S. Open Beer Championships

It's a great beer. I know it's kinda retro and "hip", but it's genuinely a wonderful local product. Glad to see it getting some recognition.

    Oil Seeps into Lake Pontchartrain

How long until New Orleans just gets bulldozed and the French Quarter turns into an amusement park? It's sad, really, because NO wasn't that bad of a city to begin with.

    Worst beer ever drank...

SABMiller (South Africa), InBev/Anheuser Busch (Belgium), and Molson/Coors (US/Canada) are the big 3 in the US. Hey, I like Applebees. It's one of the few places you can count on having a pretty darn good and healthy menu. I certainly prefer good local food, but if you're stuck in, say...

If you're a masochist, try Dinkey Wheat from Olde Main. You think Blue Moon has some coriander going on? It's like sucking on a potpourri bag full of the stuff drinking a Dinkey :biglaugh: And what's so wrong about a warm Old Style? :)

    Runner's Knee

Honestly, I don't know too much about this, but this article seems like pretty damn reasonable advice that echoes a lot of what people on here are posting: Runner's knee - the Big 5 - the 5 most common running injuries

    Worst beer ever drank...

I think Molson/Coors does an admirable job of leaving Blue Moon to it's own. They actually have pretty reasonable beers, even if they are owned by Molson/Coors. I assume if you don't like it, it's because you don't like the style, not because the beer itself is awful. It's nothing horrible...

    Worst beer ever drank...

Call me crazy, but I don't think that either of those are that much worse than their higher calorie cousins. Only downside is you're going to need to drink about 30 of them to get a buzz since they are only like 2.5% ABV.

    Worst beer ever drank...

Usually it says "Lips of faith" on the bottle, and then in the "circle" near the upper left hand side it says what the beer is on most of them. Lips Of Faith | New Belgium If nothing else, it's a scenic drive down highway 36(?) between Fort Collins and Lyons :) I'm jealous! :)

    Worst beer ever drank...

LOVE the La Folie!! I've got 3 different vintages of it at home at the moment. Favorite beer that NB brews hands down at the moment. The lips of faith series I've had (there are a bunch of different ones) are great! I have an Eric's Ale sitting at home which I'm tremendously excited about...

Fashion Police: How/where do you carry your cell phone?

I take the fashion risk of wearing mostly cargo shorts and pants and always put it in a pocket. When I'm not wearing those, it usually goes in a front pocket. When I don't have pockets, I generally have to carry around a backpack or bag of some sort and it goes in there.
