Help with HD picture on new TV?

Nobody broadcasts in 1080p at the moment, and it's unlikely they will anytime soon. For watching sports, 720p Plasmas are about the best thing on the market. My guess is you're seeing the limitations of Mediacom. There's no real way to find out for sure until you switch though.

    Computer Help Please

Then you still could have replaced the graphics card without having to format anything. How did you install windows again? Can the disc you are trying to read from be read in other computers? There isn't really any software for drives. There's some firmware for some of them, but that...

    Computer Help Please

"Melting" graphics card shouldn't have required you to format the hard drive... Also, why did the card "melt"? It's possible that a bad power supply could have dorked your whole system up, if it was the cause of your graphics card meltdown.

    Summer Beer Thread

Hopslam is a GREAT beer. I really do think it's the honey. They do a great job of attenuating the malt sugars, and replace some of that sweetness with honey. It doesn't come across boozy (I can distinctly taste the alcohol in the Peacetree DIPA...it's not entirely unpleasant, but it's certainly...

    Summer Beer Thread

True that. I was thinking more along the lines of wintering there. I can see Big Thompson canyon road being an unmitigated traffic disaster though. I've only ever been during the very beginning and very end of tourist season, so I've never had to deal with it during the peak. Really...

    Summer Beer Thread

Maybe excessively malty isn't what I was trying to convey. It's the wrong kind of malty. I think it's the Belgian yeast. It ends up coming across too...sweet. It's a good beer, don't get me wrong, but I like my IPAs to finish crisp and clean without that heavy lingering sweetness (with some...

My tv aka "social" experiment for the upcoming football/basketball season

Most of those sites are p2p streaming sites, so you technically are distributing it. I agree that the chances of getting caught are pretty slim, but it's really no different than using bittorrent to download a movie. Just that you get to watch it in (near) real-time while it's downloading, and...

    Droid X

Re: Droid X may self-destruct if "unapproved" software is installed! Yes, that's clearly what they are. Thankfully someone finally speaks the truth. It's clear that Apple is superior, and that's why their software and hardware runs everything in the world, and, therefore, it must...

    Are Extended Warranties Worth It?

Last two phones: Pre power button quit working (after I dropped it on it ....whoops ). Free replacement under warranty (1 year). Treo 755p - out of warranty, no insurance. Some keys weren't working right. Sprint CSR got me a brand new one for $75, and was here in two days. Last three...

    Are Extended Warranties Worth It?

Verizon's insurance is through Asurion (as are most of the cell phone companies, including Sprint). "Advanced devices" have a 90 dollar deductible according to VZW's website, and costs between 4.50 and 8 dollars a month. Calling Features: Total Equipment Coverage A few gotchas too. They aren't...

    Are Extended Warranties Worth It?

So you've spent nearly 600 dollars in 7 years for the opportunity to spend 50 dollars to replace a 200 dollar phone?

    Are Extended Warranties Worth It?

Depends on the phone, I guess. Most smartphones these days have a 100 dollar deductible. And even then, there are some things that insurance companies won't even pay for. I've replaced at least a half dozen mostly expensive phones and only had to pay once (75 bucks). Even when you do have...

    Are Extended Warranties Worth It?

Almost never are they worth it. The vast majority of time, if an item fails it will be under the manufacturer's warranty. If it doesn't fail during that time, it probably won't (at least until it would be out of an extended warranty period as well). I can't think of anything that I would...

Weird encounter with girl at World Market

My guess is it's Quixtar which is basically just Amway (I believe it's owned by Amway) without a business plan. I think the video literally says "it's like amazon meets facebook meets ebay". It's rather amusing.

    Droid X

After having held and messed with one, it's just too damn big. I carried around an N800 for a while, which was about the same size and quit because I just didn't need to haul around something that big, regardless of how useful it is. Basically, a touchscreen that I have to use both hands to...

    TV Help

I'd like to note that the resolution has nothing to do with the aspect ratio. Your photos make it look like 720p is pillarboxed, when in reality any resolution can look just like your 1080i, or 1080p (which is letterboxed) examples. The bottom line is that it's really complicated to compare...

    Summer Beer Thread

Also spotted at the Fleur Hy-Vee: Double IPA from Peacetree (in Knoxville). It's pretty decent. In the top half of IPAs I've tried. A little malty for my taste, but still worth a shot. 2010 La Folie 2 Hearted Ale for 9.99/6 pack. That's a heckuva deal.

obesity in america, iowa at #22

I'm a reasonably healthy/fit person and I'm still "Overweight" on the BMI scale by about 10 lbs. BMI is a bad measurement for individual obesity. It is, however, a reasonable one for measuring large, random populations. Looking at the BMI for NFL players, I'd imagine that there are very few...
