    Firetrucker's Dan Heiderscheit passed away

I hate to ask the question, but it is kind of the elephant in the room. I learned about his passing when I read the Register this morning. The article says zero about dying from cancer so I was wondering how such a young man died. According to some on the thread, he had cancer. But....did...

    KXNO/iHeart Layoffs

He is falling on the sword...just like a good foot soldier does. That isn't a knock on him, just a reality on how some are able to successfully work in these types of work environments. His bosses probably appreciate this....or maybe better, they expect him to take the hits for them. He is...

Money Market Investing and New Home Purchasing

We've riding a record long bull market at the moment...how much longer can that last??? . I would be weary of trying to do much more than what you've already discussed doing to hold cash short term. Overall, nice work at this point in your life!

....or they'll be pleased how many more sport talk listeners they now reach at 25,000W vs 5,000W. I"m sure that is what they are banking on. As someone else pointed out, there are other alternatives to 106.3. There isn't for local sports talk. My guess this is a huge win and they realize...

    KXNO/iHeart Layoffs

Not really. KXNO admitted they were wrong. When has Barta ever done that? see: Dolph suspension. i.e...Barta has already "one-up'd" this PR blemish...more than once I might add.

So does this mean all the haters are safe to come out again and will start posting again about how much all these local shows suck and they never listen (yet they always seem to have a current opinion) ....

I remember when Steve Deace stepped away from his drive-time show on 1040 WHO ( 4 or 5 yrs ago??) , he stated at the time he was doing so because he didn’t believe there was a positive future in traditional radio.

I'm not saying the fly over label doesn't have merit, just that the KXNO situations isn't necessary a result of that mindset. i.e..the old..."causation doesn't necessarily imply correlation" . Are you suggesting that with the massive layoffs and bankruptcy filing , no big markets where...

    KXNO/iHeart Layoffs

There were 1,000 layoffs company wide. iHeart filed for bankruptcy in 2018 Not sure this says anything about validation as "flyover country" unless you want to ignore those facts.

I think they care, but I don't think they have the infrastructure and intelligence info in place to be able to properly analyze what cuts make sense and which do not. Maybe they are in survival mode and time doesn't provide them that opportunity to analize? Reminds me of when Sweaty Chetty...

    KXNO/iHeart Layoffs

Maybe this is naive, but I kind of think KXNO has something a bit unique when compared to the other iHeart stations that may have let people go so the other talent in other locations may not be in as high demand to get back on the air quickly. We are a small market, a college team market, and...

I think most feel they were given their Nielsen ratings. I mean, Younkers as a group of stores was still profitable, but it was brought down by the larger entity that owned it.

The company is in trouble, but IMO this is not understanding the success of KXNO and what it means to central Iowa. They big wigs are probably assuming we'll just be as happy with national radio hosts. That might work in a market with NFL, NBA, etc teams. But we are a college sports market...

For starters, their biggest competitor seemingly just bailed on local shows. That is wide open now without a competitor. It is a different environment today.
