*** Official March Madness NCAA Tournament Thread 2023 ***

Coaching makes a big difference in these games. TX and KS just not playing smart today with their interim coaches.

    Thanks Gabe

Gabe played his heart out for ISU. He had some highs and some lows, but he never stopped playing defense, and never stopped trying. I feel sorry that there were not a couple more guys that could take some of the pressure for scoring off of him. Once Grill started to struggle/was gone ISU was...

    ***#17 [5] Iowa State vs. [12] Toledo (Sat., 2:30)***

Not sure exactly what was wrong with this year's team, but there were definitely some issues. I didn't watch every game, but in the ones I did the ladies were missing a bunch on wide open 3s that they would normally make. They had a couple games where they didn't shoot FTs as well as normal...

    Marcus Fizer Jr.

He sounds like someone that ISU should keep an eye on during his senior year. At this point any 6' 6" player that can make a jump shot is more than most of the players on this team.

    All those bricks

It kind of is what it is until TJ can find just a few shooters. Besides Gabe and Holmes there wasn't anyone on the team that you could trust to take a shot. Losing Grill hurt, because he was one of those guys that saved ISU in a handful of games this year. Jaz, not really sure what was with...

    Iowa State Transfer/Recruiting Class 2023

Really need to find some guys that can shoot. I have never seen a team with so many guys that can't shoot a basketball. It isn't just the guards. Having post players that could make a 10-12 foot jumper would have made it a lot easier to keep defenses honest.

    ***Official ISU-Pitt postgame thread***

ISU lived on Turnovers and easy baskets at the beginning of the year. They didn't turn over guys near as well or get as many easy baskets at the end of the year. I don't know much about the recruiting class other than they are highly touted, and they have the big guy from Iowa and ND. Again...

He was in the 34% range from 3 as a junior in HS, and then in the 20s his senior year, so it isn't impossible for him to get to a respectable level. He shoots FTs very well, which is a good sign that he is capable.

    ***Official ISU-Pitt postgame thread***

They desperately need guards that can shoot. Again, they thought they had Greene, Williams and Grill for scoring. That is a lot of shooting guards missing from a team that is based on defense. In addition if Shoon, Ward, Jones, Watson, or even Kutz couple make a 10 foot shot things wouldn't...

Lipsey was 1 for 2 from 3. I hope he figures something out next year, because having a point guard that is no threat to shoot a 3 is not a good thing at all.

    ***Official ISU-Pitt postgame thread***

Desperately need some guys that can create their own shots. Gabe is the only guy I would consider being able to do this on this team. Not sure who, if any of the seniors are going to come back. Eli King might need to go down a level. None of the big guys was a threat to score outside of 3...

    ***Official ISU-Pitt postgame thread***

In the end ISU just didn't have very many guys that can make a shot. There guys that could make shots was pretty well Gabe and Holmes. The loss of Williams, Grill, and not getting Green to transfer really made the team really short on guards. Eli King was sort of a disappointment, although...

We're #1! (at shot quality defense)

Hard to figure this out. Big Rob, well he just sucks at shooting, so you just have to live with that, but Grill was our best shooter, and his FT percentage wasn't great. Shoon started the season as an 80+% FT shooter and now he is in the 60s. Seems like Jaz has had more struggles at the line...

    Quick look at Pitt

More zone defense has helped with the fouls a little bit.

***NCAA WBB Selection Show (Sun., 7:00)***

Both the Men and the Women had a period during the year where they lost games they had no business losing. They both got in, with decent seeds. After the first game it doesn't matter a lot unless there is a major upset in the opposing bracket. Just go win the games.

Well B10 is always treated better than they should be and they do have 14 teams.

I think that will be an interesting game. I don't know a thing about Auburn, but the fact that they are a good defensive team doesn't help Iowa. The Hawk can still get stupid hot from the outside, and they will not throw the game away with turnovers.

That is what I was thinking, but then I remembered how dominant Baylor has been for the last two decades.
