We should just win at Houston, it becomes much easier then!

Lots of good stuff here. Turnovers definitely stand out as an area we need to capitalize on - Cincy is middle of the pack nationally in forcing turnovers and taking care of the ball. We need to capitalize on that. Offensively, they struggle (as much as us) with FT shooting, but don't get...

One interesting thing to keep the eye on. CJ Fredrick (yes, THAT CJ Fredrick) transferred from Iowa to Kentucky and then to Cincy this year. He was a starter and their top (really only) 3pt threat, shooting 44% in the non-conference. but he hasn't played since before Christmas with a...

But on Saturday they only turned it over against Houston 8 times !!!! They also held Houston to 3-16 from three point range, which are the two things that kept them in the game. They also took 25 FTs to Houston's 14, which is very unusual and had several Houston starters in foul trouble...

70-68 ISU is right where the metrics have it, although this feels like a game where both offenses struggle - just a physical rock fight where there's no easy baskets (but probably a large number of FTs), ending more like 60-58.

I was just thinking about that yesterday - about how next year, if everyone who has eligibility comes back, we really just need ~30 minutes of "paint enforcer" from the transfer pool. Too early to think about next year, and those guys don't grow on trees, but it's a well-defined role with...

My take away is that the 2000 team was not nearly the "analytical darling" that the current team is. The "feeling" for the teams is very different too - I think in part because I feel like this team hasn't really put together a complete game in a while, they just keep pulling out wins. A lot...

Haslemetrics tracks efficiency rate - offensively, defensively and overall - against the expected performance on a game-by-game basis. the VaTech and TAMU games in Orlando are BY FAR our worst offensive showing of the year. VaTech is the worst game overall, with BYU sneaking in there below...

Speaking of NET, there are now only 6 schools that only have Q1 losses: 1) Houston (Q1: 7-3) 2) Purdue (Q1: 8-2) 18) Dayton (Q1: 3-4) 19) San Diego St (Q1: 3-6) 20) Indiana St (Q1: 1-3) 31) Florida (Q1: 2-7) We'd be there too, except VaTech has gone to hell and fallen to #62.

Teams You'd Prefer to Avoid/Play in March

We’re currently a solid 3-seed, meaning we’d play a 6-seed (likely) to get to the Sweet 16. The current 6-seeds are projected as : Creighton BYU Kentucky FAU Basically my worst nightmare matchups in a row. I don’t want to see any of those

    T J

The fact that he completely changed his style of play from SDSU and UNLV is the part that amazes me the most. And yes, I think Coach Green is a huge part of that - a great hire and amazing that TJ bought in on the defensive scheme and focus.

Agree completely and the other thing I would add to that list is forcing turnovers that aren't counted as steals - taking charges, forcing travels, knocking the ball out of bounds off the opposing player, etc. I wish there was a tracked stat for "forced turnovers" in addition to steals.

Some thoughts on the game, having only watched the play-by-play and highlights - @ZRF nailed one thing ahead of the game - we needed "bad Abmas" to show up and got it - The 4-game tech foul streak is bananas, I've never seen anything like that - Disu is really really good. We had him in foul...

It was just his second game of the year, seems to have breathed some life into their offense - his first two games were road wins.

Love these style charts - especially when there's an arrow from ISU pointing to "last 5 national champs". Many such charts this year are pointing to us having the "right mix" of offense and defense to be very successful

The rest of that team, just taking Brockington out, still shot 42.5% from the field. So even worse than that!

And they aren't that bad at rebounding - they get some offensive rebounds. They just can't shoot. They hold opponents to 40% FG - which is quite good. But they also shoot 40% from the field (and 64% from the FT line), which is very bad.

Yeah, I would guess Jones/Ward will be on Mitchell and King will guard Disu. I would also worry about Jones/Ward rotating out to Disu on the perimeter.

Maybe my favorite single play I've seen in person. Fizer was far and away the best player in the conference, and maybe the best in the country that year. But all the talking heads could talk about was Chris Mihm and how he's going to win BigXII player of the year. Texas was #14 and we were...
