Local news in CR said they only gave away around 100 beers last Saturday.

    Man Colds

Me too! Tuesday-Thursday of Thanksgiving week I had a terrible sore throat & sinus drainage; felt lots better by Thanksgiving evening, but by the weekend a phlegmy cough had settled into my chest & it’s been dragging on ever since. It does improve a little every day but it’s annoying.

Im sorry, but it can’t be “correct” if you tell a 13-0 P5 champion that they should have just won a few more games to qualify for the playoff. And frankly, if you say it was “correct” because they got the “best four,” I think a very strong argument could be made for Georgia and Ohio State to be...

Here comes the doomsday thread, sorry

Let me “well, ackshually” this by saying technically a 12-team playoff this year would have 1 ACC team, 1 G5 team, 1 Big 12 team, 2 PAC teams, and 5 SEC/B1G teams. But in the future there’s nothing stopping it from being 1 ACC, 1 Big 12, 1 G5, and nine SEC/B1G teams. I thought I was being too...

Here comes the doomsday thread, sorry

Except for FSU, yes, you’re correct. A 12-team playoff this year would have 10 teams that are in the SEC/B1G next year. TEN!

Even with a 12-team playoff, look at what the committee would have ended up with: except for Florida State (and the Liberty G5 spot), every single one of the ten remaining playoff teams will be in the SEC and B1G next year. You have to go all the way to 14 to find Arizona, a future Big 12...

This is the way. I hate oversized conferences where you don’t even play some of your fellow members except once in five or six years. At least this model admits it … you basically have two conferences sharing the TV contract, with an agreement that their “conference” winners will have a playoff...

POLL: "Lower level bowls", which should the new Big XII avoid?

I used to be a big bowl fan - I still pay some attention these days, but it’s fading. I mean, people seem to hate the poll-system national champion, but at least some of those bowls then meant something for the top 4 or 5 teams trying to move up. Now they’re little more than a few extra weeks of...

I can see the committee reaction today being, “hey, we wanted to put in both Alabama and Georgia, but we decided not to do that. Why are we still getting ripped for ‘SEC bias’ when they obviously have two of the ‘best’ four teams. You should be giving us credit for screwing the SEC this year...

    2023-24 College Bowl Game Schedule

They used every last bit of their seeding mojo to get Bama/FSU/Georgia into that 4/5/6 position, there was absolutely nothing left to make Michigan/Washington 2/3 or 1/4 (can you imagine the screaming if Bama got lifted to 3 above the Huskies, or Michigan?). But they still should have done it.

BOWL: Liberty Bowl vs Memphis Dec 29

That’s a good point. How bad do you have to be if you can’t get 6 wins with only 8 conference games?

    ***2023 College Football Playoff Rankings***

Gee, I don’t know. Isn’t this a murderer’s row of competition? Bowling Green (7-5) New Mexico State (10-4) Buffalo (3-9) FIU (4-8) Sam Houston State (3-9) Jacksonville State (8-4) Middle Tennessee State (4-8) Western Kentucky (7-5) Louisiana Tech (3-9) Old Dominion (6-6) UMass (3-9) UTEP (3-9)...

BOWL: Liberty Bowl vs Memphis Dec 29

They were 0-2 against FSU, anyway. I know Georgia beat Georgia Tech so the SEC couldn’t have gone 0-fer against the ACC.

BOWL: Liberty Bowl vs Memphis Dec 29

Also this makes three times Iowa State has been selected to a bowl game on the home field of their opponent. That’s got to lead the NCAA in that stat, surely.

BOWL: Liberty Bowl vs Memphis Dec 29

Playoff committee: SEC is obviously the top conference, top to bottom, we can’t leave out their champion SEC: fails to qualify enough 6-win teams for their bowl tie-ins

    ***2023-24 College Football Thread***

Single players have waaaaaaay more impact on a basketball team than they do a football team. FSU’s QB wasn’t playing defense. He wasn’t blocking upfront to open holes for the backs. There are, what, 84 other scholarship players on that roster, many of whom are essential parts of that 13-0...

The IHSAA uses an RPI rating (in part) to determine their playoff teams, but if two teams are ranked consecutively and the lower-ranked team beat the higher-ranked one head to head, they flip them. Seems like an easy thing to write into your criteria. (Marion missed the 4A playoffs last year...

On the other hand, nothing was stopping the committee from saying “Number 8 beat number one, guess that means number 8 goes up to one” since they’re just making it up as they go along anyway.

We can be not surprised while still being disappointed the committee didn’t have the cojones to do the right thing.
