    Update on replacing T.J. Otzelberger

FH does not even get a wiff of Matt thomas if TJ Otz doesn't lay the ground work. TJ identified this kid as a sophomore, scouted him, develop a relationship, cultivated it with his parents, coach, AAU program dozen other people in Matt Thomas's life ... he then sold him on visiting Ames, he...

    Update on replacing T.J. Otzelberger

Here is where you are wrong ... recruiting is a lot of phone calls, a lot of travelling, a lot of contact, a lot of gyms in places like Onalaska Wisconsin. FH does not do those things. FH closes the deal, he is the guy who handles the offical visit, in-home visit and occasional AAU tournament...

BREAKING: Otzelberger accepts position at Washington

He was expecting at least some opportunities to interview for a head coaching position. Nothing materialized. ISU had two very good seasons which should have been (in his mind) the springboard for head coaching opportunities. Truthfully next year is likely to be more of a struggle for ISU and...

BREAKING: Otzelberger accepts position at Washington

Lets see Mann bring in the recruits that TJ has brought in. Kind of doubt he's anywhere as good as Otzelberger!

BREAKING: Otzelberger accepts position at Washington

The loss is significant. He was the lead recruiter for many of ISU's recruits and transfers. TJs impact meshed perfectly with Hoiberg's philosophy and he (TJ) was able to bring in players that fit well with how FH wanted to run the team ... more athletic, more NBA-ish philosophy vs. the...

    recruiting big men

The bottom line is a supply and demand issue. The availability of quality big men is scarce. If you are 6'10, 6'11" or taller then every blue blood school on the planet is looking at you. Not only do you have the Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma's chasing every 6'10+ body there is but you have the...

    Rutter a finalist at Minnesota-Duluth

Rutter lost out to Matt Bowen, head coach at conference rival Bemidji State. Now the question is does Rutter pursue Bemidji's job?

ISU feels like Rice, TCU, Houston in the SWC days

Tell me if NU and MU leave for Big 10/11 and Texas (et al) leave say for the SEC what do YOU think will happen to ISU?

    Jeff Rutter

It looks like he's NOT going to be Dir of Ops but rather work in the Athletic Department through the end of his contract. Currently he is coordinating the ISU Travel Road Show coming to a town near you!

ISU feels like Rice, TCU, Houston in the SWC days

If CU, MU and NU bolt ... ISU will not be affiliated with Texas. UT will do something to benefit UT ... probably join the SEC with aTm, OU and OSU. I suspect the MVC is a good landing spot for ISU or possibly a reconfigure Big 8 conference with NDSU, UND, SDSU, USD and UNI amongst others...

    Assistant Coach Possibilities Thread

Re: Jeff Rutter He was offered a job at CU and turned it down. He was not offered a coaching staff position by Hoiberg. It appears he will remain on staff at ISU in some fashion to fill ou the remainder of his contract. I suspect he'll look for other opportunities while his son finishes high...

    Alex Dorr

Herst and U-Mary exceeded expectations last season especially considering that he (Herbst) was hired so late last summer (June-ish). U-Mary is a top 6 team in the conference but still isn't and may never be good enough to battle Winona State (Clayton Vette), Augustana, Mankato and Saint Cloud...

    Deace was very sharp today

I think a philosophical change was made to say ... that ISU has to pick coaches are are "ISU" guys. Rhoads and Hoiberg. Clearly fit that profile. ISU will not become a lay-over for coaches looking to better their career *cough* Chizik *cough*. In doing so ISU may not get THE best guy out...

Sipple: Creighton job better than ISU

Didn't the best team from the MVC just beat the best team from the B12 in the NCAA's? UNI was 4-2 this past season against BCS conference teams

Sipple: Creighton job better than ISU

I have a legitimate and serious question ... if the B12 implodes ... Missouri (& possibly NU/KU) to Big10, CU to Pac10, UT and T-A&M to SEC ... what happens to ISU? Could an MVC Creighton team actually be in a better position than ISU?

    Interim Head Coach?

Why not, it might give you an opportunity to let Otz or Nurse take over the program, retain the roster as is and do a extensive search. Hiring a new guy isn't going to help this year's recruiting. Doing a search that gets resolved say by January or February allows you to see (a) what Otz/Nurse...

    from the creighton message board

The current UNI squad that just went to the Sweet 16 is almost entirely Greg McD's team. He coached them, he recruited them and they went on to a lot of success because of him. Much like Brad Stevens and Likliter. Is Jacobson a good coach? Absolutely. Better than McD? Maybe. But to...

    Coach Otz

No I am saying that given the choice of: -a- Stay at ISU and work for someone that may only be hiring you to keep the roster in tact, someone who may not have any long term loyalty to you, someone that you do not know as well as you know Greg McD -or- -b- Move onto Creighton with Greg...

    Coach Otz

Two things are going to happen: 1. Coach Otz will be given a shot at the head coaching position, either pernamently or on an interim basis. 2. He leaves to join McDermott at Creighton. He won't stay as someone else's assistant at ISU. The question lies ... will the risk of losing...
