2019 Conference allocations for Wrestling Announced

Jacobe is actually sitting pretty good. If he wins Big 12s, he could jump ahead of Lujan in the rankings and he would be undefeated at 174. I could see him anywhere between a 5 and 8 seed. If he loses a match at Big 12s then I see him falling into the low to mid-teens.

2019 Conference allocations for Wrestling Announced

I think the only precedent of the seeding committee making any changes would be Kyle Snyder in 2016. He was 6-0 going into NCAA and received the 2 seed behind Gwiz and ahead of Ty Walz. Snyder was also an undefeated returning World Champ.

2019 Conference allocations for Wrestling Announced

My take on Smith's seed at NCAAs - very similar to GrappleCys Head-to-head competition — 25 percent - He will only have head to head on the guys he beats at Big 12s Quality wins — 20 percent - He will only have quality wins in the guys he beats at Big 12s Coaches Ranking — 15 percent - Needs...

2019 Conference allocations for Wrestling Announced

Why did they not move the criteria to 31/31/.690 for 174? That would have allowed Mantanona to get one more spot in the Big 12- he was 31/22/.500. No one else on the bubble met that criteria. Is 30/30/.700 the absolute minimum that can be used? Edit: I found the answer: "The AQ's could be...

    RPI

Looks like De La Riva got the last spot and Mantanona missed it by one spot (ranked #31). I did not realize that top 30 CR, top 30 RPI, 70% win were the absolute minimums for assigning allocations.

    RPI

I agree - I thought there might have been a chance that it was worded poorly and if they wrestled at all in the last 30 days they would be included. I think Mantanona might have a chance of getting the last allocation at 174 so it might actually be a wash in the end, but we will hopefully see soon.

Jacobe Smith and Geer are also not listed in the coaches poll.

    WrestleStat Rankings - Week 16 2018-2019

@Andegre Another question on how you calculated the RPI. I was trying to calculate the RPI for a single wrestler to compare it to your numbers. It turns out that it is a lot of work. The formula is (25% Wrestlers Win %) + (50% Opponents Win %) + (25% Opponents Opponents Win %), but it seems...

    WrestleStat Rankings - Week 16 2018-2019

I love the new changes. I am confused on the two RPI scores. Shouldn't these two numbers be the same if someone has over 17 D1 matches? Also, winning percentage for RPI is only calculated on matches at the same weight. For example Jacobe Smith has a 22-3 record vs D1 opponents, but has a...

    Big 12 seeding

I understand having a first round match gives the team more chances for bonus points, but the qualifying tournament should be focused on getting the correct individuals to nationals.

    Big 12 seeding

With 12 teams there would be only 4 first round matches each round. It would make sense to draw at random who gets the first round matches. Moving the seeds around on the bracket makes it confusing and less fan-friendly.

    Big 12 seeding

"Reminder: there will be a random draw for position on the brackets for each weight class, allowing the possibility of scattered seeds throughout the opening round match-ups." This cannot be true. How can you have blind draws for a national qualifier. This could create easy opportunities for...

    Zane Mulder

I just saw this posted by the DCG account. I would be surprised if they pulled another redshirt to wrestle at 165. Maybe Zane is just weighing-in for the meet? I think Logan is doing a good job as a true freshman.

    165 and 197 next year

Assuming we don't get any transfers: at 165 Jennings is back but I see challenges from Straw (he wrestled half of his redshirt year at 165 with some success) and Schumacher. At 197, currently either Colbray or Shapiro would be the best options, but 184 is a better weight for both of them.

Utah Valley vs South Dakota State on Thursday

Utah Valley wrestles South Dakota State on FloWrestling this Thursday. These teams are the Cyclones next two opponents. Iowa State wrestles SDSU on Friday and Utah Valley on Sunday. I assume the cyclones will get a 1 pound allowance for Friday's dual.

    Big XII Wrestling Tournament Pre-seeds

Do they do a random draw for the bottom seeds? That is the only way 125,133, and 174 makes any sense to me.

The NCAA allows scholarships to be adjusted year-to-year. The Big 12 now requires all scholarships cannot be lowered for 4 years if an athlete is in good standing. A 5th year can be added but is not guaranteed. This rule changed in the Big 12 only a few years ago (2014). Gadson was actually...
