    Joel Lanning

No, overall they were similar players in high school. All 3 considered athletes by recruiters, each had a ton of passing and rushing yard and TD's, comp% almost the same. There's a lot we can do with our talent besides move them to defense. Have you seen Damien Lawry's offer list? Why can't he...

    Joel Lanning

He'll need an OC/QB who will know how to properly use him and build an offense that suits his skillset. Charlie Rogers, the #3 player in the state had similar numbers and he's playing defense. RGIII had similar high school numbers, Mack Brown wanted him to play DB so he went to BU and won a...

Former Cyclone QB returning to Ames on Saturday - Jared Barnett

i'm glad you though it was so hilarious. I've posted plenty on here that has nothing to do with JB. But, you can definitely have the last laugh.

Former Cyclone QB returning to Ames on Saturday - Jared Barnett

Here something I know about JB because I'm close to his family. He injured his back pretty bad during his true freshman year. He worked his *** off to rehab it and avoid surgery so that he would be ready for offseason after AA graduated. He helped ISU win some big games and I've never heard him...

    I agree with you.

NOTEBOOK: Depth chart changes for OSU game; KSU kick time

All of GR reps were not in scrub time. I think the alarming part has to do with something CW mentioned on Saturday night. If SR was pulled because you wanted to rest his injury, then don't go back to him after halftime. If he was pulled due to being ineffective, then stick with Rohach the...

How Mess takes us out of games in the 1st qtr

You have to target someone other than Bundrage. When he's your only target and he's covered which is most of the time (unless you get man-1 like UT did on 97 yarder) the QB has to either hold the ball to see if he gets open which may cause a sack or tuck and run. Either way the OL looks bad when...

    Please no QB competition.

Actually, there wasn't a competition for those two wins. SJ was getting about 70% of first teams reps during the first 4 games. In week six, JB took 70% of the first team reps the week following the TT game and continued through KSU. The "QB competition" actually started the week of OSU when...

POLL: Who should start at QB vs. OSU?

Sam Richardson. Dating back to last November, CPR invested the entire program in him. It continued during bowl season, offseason, spring, summer, fall camp, and half of this season. He has to quit tearing these you men apart with the roller coaster mind games and superficial QB competitions and...

    Wimberly for Heisman

Agree! Farniok made that drive and all the blocks. Would have liked to see Wimberly get the TD instead of Woody since Woody totally whiffed his block in the previous play.

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

Here's some video of the playside zone I mentioned above. Notice the wing coming across the formation and CK reading the playside DE. This is how he ran it at Nevada. Colin Kaepernick 49ers Highlights 2012 Read-Option - YouTube

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

This is a much better picture. The LBer looks like a 9-tech because we have a TE to that side on the LOS. This is not even a read formation. They should be running power left out of this formation! C and LG double the 1-tech up to the middle backer, LT blocks down on the 3-tech, TE releases...

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

I know that the QB's read is not always the DE. On the play he is the read. He's lined up in a 5-technique and is the unblocked man in the LOS. He can be in a 2-point or 3-point stance. That doesn't matter.
  17. FootballinTexas

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

This play looks like 13 scat (zone right) because the left DE is unblocked and the slot left has man coverage. The OL is attempting to zone block right but, there is no push at the POC and everything is jumbled at the LOS. If Kirksey is the left DE then he is the read guy. If we send a guy to...

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

I disagree. The QB's read is the DE, not anyone past him. The play happens too fast and a quick decision has to be for him to read more than one guy. You can't have the QB over-thinking the read. It's very simple, outside shoulder closed then pull, anything other than that give it. At the time...

Why SR has to be able to run vs. Tulsa, or a change could be made

I disagree. The QB reads the outside shoulder of the DE to decide "pull" or "give". For a "pull", The DE's outside shoulder needs to be parallel to the LOS. For a "give", it's anything other than a "pull" read. Bottom line, QB's are taught when in doubt, "give" it. This pic definitely shows...
