Something else no one is talking about

Don't remember the double. But trying it once and giving up isn't the answer. Change where the double is coming from then -- i.e. perimeter defender rather than another big. Run one of the guards at him as soon as he put the ball on the court. Try fronting him sometimes. Run some more zone...

Something else no one is talking about

He may have been the best option one one one, but that still isn't saying much. That is why I am surprised he didn't double, like I've seen in the past. It was pretty clear, early in that game, that the Clones didn't have anyone that could cover him solo. Teams successfully double Brackins all...

Something else no one is talking about

Hamilton probably wasn't playing because he wasn't rebounding or playing defense. It was borderline embarrassing how Eglseder was just backing him down, shooting over him, rebounding over him, etc. That being said, Brackins, JVB and Dendy didn't do any better. I was a little frustrated that...

A lot of hoops still to be played...

I agree about the aggressiveness. If he had put the ball on the court and taken it to the hoop, I would be much less critical (if critical at all). But, I don't like Dendy settling for an 18 foot jumper early in the shot clock at any point in the game, let alone up 1 with under a minute to...

I would love to see guys attack the rim.

A lot of hoops still to be played...

Believe me, when it got under 2 minutes, I also expected the Clones to lose (which is sad in itself). But, again, going the length of the court in 5 seconds was going to be tough. Especially if you put Garrett on the ball and/or run some type of 3/4 court zone press. At a minimum, McDermott is...

A lot of hoops still to be played...

No. Because I think the odds are in ANY team's favor if their opponent must take the ball the length of the court in 5 or 6 seconds against a set defense. They were killing the Clones with the big guys inside. You aren't going to be able to set up anything like that in 5 or 6 seconds...

    If we beat Cal....

Agree. Each non-conference loss, regardless of opponent, hurts because it simply gives the Clones less room for error in the Big 12. A great non-conference record may have allowed an 8-8 conference record and still getting an invite. As it stands now, I am guessing 10-5, which means they will...

A lot of hoops still to be played...

Couple of things. A lot of stuff comes back to rebounding....including, tough time controlling the tempo without doing it. Rebounding and outlet passes start breaks. I would have liked to see McDermott mix things up a lot more -- press, maybe mix in some more zone, double teaming Eglseder in...

A lot of hoops still to be played...

Doesn't matter. Better off not even taking a shot. Give UNI the ball back, under Iowa State's basket, with about 5 or 6 seconds left in the game. I will take my chances with that. Mac nailed it in his post game presser. This team lacks toughness right now. They better find it soon, because...

    Going forward from UNI

Couldn't agree more. And get tougher. Somebody drives the lane, Hamilton needs to send a message and put him on his butt. Brackins needs to occasionally just lower his shoulder and drive to the basket...if you get a charge, make the defender feel it. This, like the last couple of years...

This team has all the talent in the world...

Who is the dominant offensive force? Who is the monster on the boards? I saw neither of those players last night.

    Craig Brackins

Some guys just don't have the toughness in them to fight it out in the post. At least last night, UNI big men wanted it a LOT more than Iowa State. Unfortunately, it seems like McDermott has focused much of his offense around Brackins down low. When that is getting blown up, everything is...

    Craig Brackins

Didn't see the NW game, but last night, in my opinion the biggest problem was Brackins and his inability to establish decent low post position. He was consistently getting pushed out 15 feet from the basket. That just kills the spacing and makes it easy to double team and recover back out to the...

    Craig Brackins

Brackins wants to be a 3. Doesn't have the handle or defensive ability to play it. If he decides he wants to be a 4, he has got to be able to post up without getting pushed 20 feet from the basket.

    UNI Game Excuses Thread

Experience didn't win this game. Koch, or whoever was guarding Brackins, pushed him 20 feet from the basket every time he tried to post up. Unacceptable from a guy that is expected to play at the next level. Koch and Eglseder completed dominated the Iowa State big men. Good teams...

The better team won this game. Koch was the best player on the court. Clones have/had no answer for Eglseder. Panthers were tougher and wanted it more.

    ****Official Post Game Thread****

I believe most on here may have overrated the talent on this team....probably based in part on the lack of it the last several years. None of the post men, with the possible exception of Hamilton, was able to keep from getting pushed 15 feet from the basket. None of the post defenders were...

    UNI

Funny, but when I asked the question, I thought maybe Mizzou (haven't seen them, know they lost quite a bit from last year's team). Very skeptical with OU or OSU. Possible with KSU, although I think they are better than showing tonight (very good backcourt with Pullen and Clemente). At this...
