Woolston appears to be quite the sharpshooter. Going to have to play her tight. Shooting 48% from three on 86 attempts. We don’t have anyone who has attempted that many, BUT we have more threats.

They shoot 38% from three but that looks to be less a team stat that her being the team stat for that category although Kaylee Smiler is at 55% so sleeping on her would be to a bad idea. Their 6'-4" F also launches quite a few but her percentage is really bad so we might see that tonight. Might not draw Audi outside unless she hts a couple though.

Starting two freshman guards that didn't get on anyone's top lists but Woolston was Utah Player of the Year and Whiting was Idaho Player of the Year. Woodson has obviously made a bit more of a splash than Whiting but any freshman starting and averaging double figures is doing pretty good. Maybe BYU is looking up in the future with their new coach.

Lauren Gustin averaging a double-double at 16 and 16 is crazy even with a soft non-conference. Not soft stats though. she lead the NCAA in rebounding last year. She had 16 versus TCU and 20 versus OU in league play so far and 14 of those were offense boards. Going to be fun watching the paint tonight.

I remember that 2002 game all too well. The last of our powerhouse teams of that era. Unexpected loss at Hilton. Not the way we wanted to see Welle and Gahan go out.
I met Kara Lawson once at a WNBA game in Sacramento when she and Brittany Wilkins both played for the Monarchs and told her how disappointed I was ISU didn't get to play Tennessee in the NCAAs that year. She said THEY were excited about experiencing Hilton Magic for themselves and being in that environment and were shocked that ISU didn't advance. Kara looks right at me and said, "All you had to do was win," with a wry smile. Britt and I just laughed.

Loved this quote from Nyamer Diew in the DM Register this morning. She is such a confident fighter.

'Everyone wants to tell us, ‘Oh you guys are doing pretty good with what you guys have got,’' said Iowa State senior Nyamer Diew. 'Yeah, we know that. Do you know? That is the real question because we’re going to come into your place and we’re going to beat you. I think teams have got to wake up and start focusing on themselves.'

I watched probably twenty minutes of the Oklahoma at BYU game this week. OU shot lights out in the first half and got off to a huge lead, but BYU never quit and won the second half. As others have noted, Kailey Woolston can really shoot it - we'd better not lose track of her. Lauren Gustin is very athletic but I see her struggling with our one-two punch of Crooks and Natabou. Having to battle with them for inside position will hopefully wear her down the way it did Hannah Gusters of OSU. I like our chances in this one...

It may be wishful thinking, but Aubrey Joens had a great game against BYU so I'll predict a similar game for Kelsey, who hustles more and seemingly has better instincts than her older sister. Go State!

So both our women and men play today at 5 pm on ESPN+, how nice.
yeah I hate that, happens too often especially during conference season. I wish they would figure that out, especially when games are on ESPN+ and can be literally any time.

With no TV windows to worry about, how does this happen. They are cannibalizing our viewership in an era that it matters. Especially, for espn and advertisers. Just dumb.

And we have to watch BYU-TV commercials all night?

Whiting looks so young to have a daughter in college. She also has a son in college at Boise State. Her and her husband played basketball at BYU. She came to BYU from coaching high school ala Sherri Coale.

BYU doesn't look bad. We are probably fortunate they are cold as heck from three although we've done a good job of not letting their two best shooters take many threes.

We actually opened a window each for men and women, watching on our tv. Not ideal because only one at a time will have sound, but we can keep an eye on both.
