State Fair butter cow is FAKE

All kidding aside, I legitimately had no clue the cow wasn’t fully butter.

The structure is probably made of chickenwire like many parade floats are. You have to have some kind of structure to sculp butter on

Yeah, I had never given it a lot of thought, but I figured it was too. I thought they took a block of butter and then carved a butter sculpture out of it

To stop it from melting, but it's not frozen. Even frozen there is no way those legs made of butter could hold the weight of a cows body made of solid butter. It would probably weigh close to the weight of a real cow.

They should make it hollow like those chocolate Santas and Easter Bunnies. Butter/chocolate both melt pretty easily.

I thought fake meant it was made with margarine.

And fun fact, it's gone in the photo but this year's IL butter cow had a woman milking the cow as well. Represents the woman who runs an IL family farm.......and Iowa State grad. Great family, mom worked over in the NSRIC building iirc.
