I'm pretty surprised that The Shining is anywhere close to Halloween. Really shouldn't be close IMO
Agreed. My biggest surprise since starting to get involved in these threads is the insane love The Shining gets. To each his own, but Final Four is pretty crazy imo. Considering the movies that aren’t in the Final Four.

The music in Halloween and the Exorcist are iconic. Just hearing them sent shivers up my spine.

Halloween is a big deal in the slasher genre but it's also a psychological thing.

Whenever there's things going on during the regular daytime, it's spooky as F.

It's why Texas Chainsaw was so effective; hardly any music and there's just this house with these horrible things happening and it doesn't matter when or who it is.

I chose Halloween, but it happens to be one of my favorite movies regardless of genre.

I am a fan of The Shining, whether Stephen King or anyone else likes it or not.

Isolation and boredom, especially for addicts, is like throwing gasoline on a fire. No outlet. It’s a scary position to be in for all characters, and that doesn’t even include the supernatural forces at play. I mean…Wendy doesn’t even believe the hotel is haunted until Jack snaps. She blames it all on him, which only pushes him further.

The whole “daytime” stuff is exactly right. People are afraid of the dark. Halloween made people see that crazy **** can happen during the day too. You’re never safe.

Scream did this very well also.

Halloween is a good choice to be an ideal emblematic of the entire genre…but pretty much any Kubrick film could justifiably win a “best of” in any category or contest.

The Shining isn’t even my favorite Kubrick film but it might be the most well shot and well acted.

Friday the 13th also took from this.

I go back and forth on Friday the 13th. The plot is stupid but the looseness of how they're done is still pretty spooky.

Speaking of Friday the 13th, that’s a debate and opinion I would love to hear from you all on here. Who does the best portrayal of Jason?

Kane Hodder is the go to for most, but I actually put Hodder third in line.

1. Ted White (Part 4: The Final Chapter)
2. Richard Brooker (Part 3)
3. Kane Hodder (Part 7, 8, 9 and 10)
4. Derek Mears (2009 remake and a very Good Friday movie btw)
5. Warrington Gillette (Part 2)

That’s my top 5. Ted White was terrifying as Jason and Part 4 is imo the best Friday movie. Shot so well, had some actual character development and Jason was just brutal.

I guess part 2 and 3 aren't much more than a guy running around in a gunny sack or mask but they felt like the most 'human' of the series so I'd prefer them in creepiness.

Agreed and why I had Richard Brooker as high as I did. He had that human blend with the iconic hockey mask intro and the way he moved was very creepy and intimidating.

Halloween H2O was my first horror movie and I fell in love with the series. Not seeing the first one first, takes a little bit of the creepiness out of it but that movie is superb at the psychological terror it portrays. Movies from that series will always win for me. There is a sense of nostalgia with them.
