Football Media Day

Who cares?

When has media day been anything more than an early excitement generator?

I don't know? Hard to get excited when you can't talk to people. There's usually dozens of players and almost all the coaches. You can learn a lot.

I enjoy the excitement for this time of year but I've never taken anything from it that really mattered for the season.

What would we as fans learn?

The players are excited, and so is the staff....do they ever tell us anything else?

Football Media Day is tomorrow... I don't really understand why only a handful of players are available and only CMC, no assistant coaches. I really wanted to hear from Becht, Clanton, and Scheelhause... I don't think it does any good to lock the program down like this. Just raises more questions.
I look at it this way. The media day should be about football but we all know a large part of the questions are going to be about gambling. Campbell put it on himself and his leaders to handle the situation.

Just cancel the damn thing if you're going to pull cowardly stunts like this. I get that you don't want everyone to have to answer for the sins of a few, but it isn't that difficult to train everyone to say "no comment" to any question related to gambling.

I take it you mean as simple as to train everyone not to gamble illegally?

As as mentioned above, they’ve limited availability before.

Like I said, if you're that scared, just cancel it.

Might not be scared. I see CMC as someone that would be a shield for any of his guys when it comes to keeping them away from legal issues. Not saying it’s right or wrong but this could be a way of him taking on some of the tough **** that his assistants may not want to. I’d prefer it if my supervisor did. As for the players, maybe he doesn’t want them to take on that and be distracted from football.

Your first sentence contradicts the rest of your post. If you aren't scared, you don't need to shield anyone from anything.

It's media day, the entire purpose of which is to get your players and staff in front of the media to drum up excitement for the season. If you aren't going to make people available, then end the charade.

This makes me annoyed as well
I can understand the frustration. Yet, this year, at this time, you are going to have to just let this one go. CMC is probably more than a little disappointed in some of his team and culture, with the gambling situation. Through no fault of his, really, it is on him like a fly on sh!t. He is circling the wagons and is going into this season, already with some unknowns, coaching changes, etc, and now this, trying to take back some control.

Enjoy the day and fire up for some football. We need it to come sooner vs. later.

Not a fear thing. It’s just he’s keeping them from having to drudge of dealing with a bunch of stupid legal stuff which they may not want to. Not a fear thing. To me it’s more a leadership quality. I don’t disagree with your last paragraph.

I don't mind limiting the players you bring out, maybe not this much though.... but I think the main assistant coaches should all be available... they are grown adults and if they can't handle this then they shouldn't be in the positions they're in IMO.

And CMC is not going to let anyone know a thing tomorrow either... anyone expecting any answer whatsoever regarding gambling investigation... you're going to be VERY disappointed.. he ain't gonna say a thing.

No one is going to ask questions not related to the gambling ****. So don't pretend that it is going to get anyone excited for football no matter how many players are there.

In general, the staff really isn't around for media day any way. They usually do media avails every few days during camp with a few staff members. I'll miss that.

Cowardly? Really!

Would you care to backstep on this some?
